Is there going to be a forum
Couldnt really figure out how to post a new blog on here so any help would be appreciated…
I was looking to sell my car and get a can am spyder as I have been to test drive loads of different cars but cant find anything I really like or compares to my current Z4. I knows the spyder isnt the most practicle thing in the world however was wondering if anyone in the UK uses it as there primary mode of transport? or is it just a weekend toy?
Would be great to hear from anyone with any thoughts on my dilema
Hi sdale14
For me it’s a boys toy although I ride at any opportunity regardless of practicality,
Depending on your lifestyle however you could potentially use it as a primary mode of transport… although you won’t get as much hairdressing equipment into the boot of the Spyder as you will in the Z4!!
Personally I’d say have both if you can then there’s no compromise.
As much fun as they are I’d never forego a car for one.. that said if I lived in a large city where cars were not really required as public transport would be more practical I’d consider it.
Happy deliberation
cheers

Sorry Im not on the ball, we have an illness in the family, please bear with me and I’ll try to catch up soon.
I dont have the time at the moment for a forum but any help or advise would be appreciated.
Anybody have a brake squeal problem here in the UK, I have! See Australian Spyder Ryders link on my site and go to Home page. Is anything being done here in UK?
Brake squeal can be reduced by using brake quiet on the back of the pads and giving them a regular dousing with brake cleaner.
New brake pads have just come available that use a different material. Have them in stock but not had chance to test them yet cos of the snow !!!
Thanks Giles will try this, sorry for the delay in posting your reply.
Anybody tried the adjustable windshields available or know of a UK supplier. From what I read these taller screens should make alot of difference on a long run.
Hello
my name is steve. any information on any adaptions for disabled riders i/e brake levers on handle bars
thanks steve
Look on US site for adaptions – one guy did it relatively simply by using the existing brake fluid andthen something to hydraulically connect it to the hand lever – job done! Let me know how you get on.
Cheers, Richard
Just ordered one – getting a brake on the bars and a rack for my wheelchair made on the back. Will get pics and info loaded when it’s done. Can’t wait to get back into biking.
New touring screens coming at the end of March from Europe should be better price than importing from USA, I’ll be doing test and will put my opinion on my website.
Jeff
I have a squeek (thought it was my wallet ) thanks for the info to get rid Taff
Looking forard to meeting other Spyders owners in the West or North West of the UK
Regards Rees or Taf567
Jeff,
Have you seen the camper trailer available at Elite Campers??? I think you need one. Give Steve a ring i think he can sort you out a good price!
Jamie.
Hi to all Sypder Riders UK
I have recently booked a trip to morroco with a tour group http://www.wildcat-adventures.co.uk
the trip will be leaving on 27 sept-13 oct 2009
i did the trip last year with the group on my bmw r1200gs adventure and to say this was the most the blowing experience i had, was is a short fall to the reality of riding 4000 mile through the most fantastic roads and views, i have seen in my life.
so this time i am going to do it on my spyder,
below are the details of my trip if any of you are interested.
the trip is based on single occupancy i like to spread my legs so this would be more cost effective if you shared,
DESCRIPTION
Morocco Atlas Mountains Raid Motorbike Road Tour 27 September – 13 October 2009
Holiday Price Rider (based on double occupancy) £ 1839
Single Hotel room Supplement £ 280
Single Cabin ferry Supplement £ 80
Brittanny & FRS Ferries Supplement for ‘Trike’ style bike £ 280

what do you think
Sounds like a good adventure, but cannot go this year I am off to USA to stay at a working Ranch in Montana for two weeks. Have a good trip Regards Rees
Hi Dan
We met you on the Y factor weekend, we are the ones who had already wrote a bike off.
just wanted to wish you “good luck” on your trip, and take care. Hope to see you on another ride out.
a brilliant web site for spyder owners. really informative. never knew there was many mods available .I bought my spyder in July 2008 and am the only one in Ireland.Have not got my steering re-programmed yet but after reading of the possible danger i will have it done soon. my nearest dealer is in Glasgow Scotland .I have always experiences the steering going from understeer to oversteer in tight bends.
Hi all – 2 emails recently that have been passed onto BRP
Hi Martin/Rikard/Roadster tech team
Great trike, lovely to ride!
Thought I’d give you all my feedback for reference. Note I’m a very
experienced bike rider(an ex-IAM senior observer) and trike rider
(Victory SportCruiser previously), but zero percent technical knowledge!
All’s meant in the greatest possible taste
Rikard – presumably you’ll know who the Canadian tech guys are to
forward this onto!
The plus side:
Rotax engine: my, that’s got some oomph! Just what the Dr ordered…
Overall product, simply brilliant (I got an SE5 with touring kit)
Handling in the dry
Handling (dry) not swayed by speed
Front suspension’s ok, but I’ve fitted a stiffer anti-roll bar whilst
keeping it on position 3. It’s good, but the anti-roll could be far
more effective (my previous trike was a Victory that was simply
terrific)
2 major negatives (SE5 and wet):
- with hindsight, would have gone for a manual, and then would not
suffer the following:
it doesn’t like UK roads, ie mini-roundabouts (unlike USA, Canada,
Australia…), simply won’t change up until its too late (15mph). Do
you (tech team) think it’s possible to send my dealer (Martin, Jetworks)
an update so that it changes up, eg from 5mph??? The problem here is
purely not having a clutch to feather. I feel this failure to change up
from 1st to 2nd is DANGEROUS – why on earth do we have it??? You have
to be really subbtle with the right hand in 1st gear, and not losing
traction at the back end. And it’s even worse when the roads are wet and
your trike still refuses to allow a change up.
Handling – in the wet!!!! and let’s just say that it can be less than
sure footed in the wet!
Rear tyre – wet !!!!!!! It’s awful on wet roads in the summer, so God
help us in winter! I now want to ditch this tyre immediately
Some minor thoughts:
Rear and fronts > give us a better choice, grip (wet!) v mileage, grip
wins
It periodically, 2nd > 3rd gear, gets its knickers in a twist (it shifts
up, but on its third time of trying). Pretty bad stumbling all the time
The brake position is naff, you don’t get the ‘feel’ for braking with
your fingers
The foot(hand)brake needs rethinking, esp. when parked on a slight
in/decline with the SE5! It can’t be parked in gear. 0/10 for that one.
That’s it, happy development guys!
Do you think a software update to take the first gear going to second at
5mph is possible?
Cheers,
Richard Harris

and this followed shortly:
Hi Martin
Thought I’d better tell you this…
Yesterday was brilliant!
12 of us – ROGS (retired/retarded* old gits, all extremely good & ‘progressive’ IAM senior observers) – went out among the lanes of Kent & Sussex (when I say lanes, I mean single lane tracks, and it took all day) – and for the first time I didn’t say ‘I just about kept up’ but said ‘Where were you all?!’ A testiment to just how good it was, outstanding.
I discovered the trick – riding with the engine to its max (eg not dropping below 7,000rpm) and on the throttle when the time came – this made the trike ‘sit up’ and hold the road much better when cornering. Honestly, by holding it down a gear or two transformed its handling. Strange but true!
Interestingly, only the guy on the KTM came close, I wonder how an Aprilia RSV Factory would have been
Planning to go to the Nurembergring next, but first I need to sort out some rear rubber…
Seriously grinning,
Richard
*delete as applicable
Hi all – just thought you should know I’ve tried out a new rear tyre today, Toyo Proxes T1R, and no matter what I did it wouldn’t budge on its grip – and its been absolutely p*ssing it down (I was a drowned cat by the time I finished!). Even the fronts lost their grip, it was that bad. So the Toyo looks fantastic, but I don’t know for how many miles!!!!! Richard
Rotax – I’ve booked, is anyone else going and want to group up on the way over? Cheers
Yep, I’m booked on it. Don’t know where to travel from yet.
With regard Rotax visit I am in contact with BRP about travel arrangements, as i’m a travel agent I can get group rate with P&O, but they don’t have any numbers yet. P&O do whats called Rally rate’s, but have minimum number, we will have to wait and see what BRP come back with? I plan to do Hull – Rotterdam to save that long drag down to Dover, don’t forget the earlier you book the best price will apply, it may not be worth waiting, but it would be nice to meet up for the overnight en-route.
I’m not comitted, still waiting to see how many are going from UK, I expect it to be popular with European Spyder owners.
Regards Jeff
Hi Richard,
Im going on the trip to Austria, i live in Coventry and would be good if we can arrange a place to meet to ride over.
What day are you planning on leaving?
I have just paid the registration fee, and im now looking to book the hotel. Where is it you are staying and for how many nights?
Booked the hotel… Marriot Courtyard for 2 nights but thinking of staying a couple more and going to Nurburgring. Thinking of travelling from Hull on the Wednesday night, over to Rotterdam.
I`ve booked 2 nights at the Marriot Courtyard for the Austria trip but that all so far. no travel arrange yet you can contact me by phone 07795397959
Hi Jeff,
Just logged on to your site, great to have news and info on other riders. Please add me to your list. I have a 2008 Spyder purchased from Adrenalin last year and just picked up from service this am ready fro the ride out to Linz next week. Staying in Koln and Bernreid on the way out next week and at the Steinberger in Linz. Hoping for reliability and good weather and a great weekend. Add me to the list of owners and include my email. I have just moved from Lincoln to North Norfolk so don’t know if there are any other riders around this area,?
Hope this info is of interest to you
Regards
Rob Welch BSc.(Hons), FMPA, FBIPP
Hi Rob,
Don’t know if you will pick this up, but I am a new owner as of March 2011. I live in West Norfolk, so not to far from you.
Regards
oldgrouse
Just spoke to Ian, he is going over on the euro tunnel. Going to meet up with him and another ryder over there.
Just stumbled on this site after looking at getting myself a spyder, a couple of questions spring to light reading the blog,
Insurance – what sort of cost are you looking at and how easy to find an insurance company, I presume it is only specialist brokers?
Touring – I tend to disapeer over to the Alps a few weeks a year and put 4k+ miles under my belt, would I be looking at having to get the trike serviced abroad if the intervals are only 5k km’s?/
Cheers
Andrew
Hi Andyl
New to all this blog stuff however noticed your post about insurance.
Bike Sure just insured me for £454.00 fully comp.
If you drop the added junk they try and flog you like breakdown, personal injury cover etc etc it comes down. I also used my existing vehicles no claims bonus to gain further discount by showing my other brokers proof of no claims was valid….if you follow me,
I had to jump through a few hoops like we all do I guess…the photos and daft marketing questionaire etc however it seemed reasonable enough.
cheers
Blue
Hi Andy,
Regarding insurance. the only insurers are Bikesure £500 fully comp.
Servicing, there are plenty of agents abroad. Its upto you how you do it. I’ve just been over to Austria on my bike, great ride. It is currently at Adrenelin being serviced.
Hope this helps you.
Hi Jim
Just got Quote From Bikesure after 12 months cover with them and 1 years NCB for that year£624.00
Kicked off with them and told them member of owners club Now £456.48
you just have to haggle i think !!
Is there any owners near me in Bury Lancs
Keep on riding Boys & Girls
john
Cheers
Just a test post to see if this makes it onto the site?
Latest boys toy purchase being an SE5 from Adrenalin.
Thought i’d register another uk rider although it doesn’t look like there’s much occuring judging by the activity on the site!
Interested to hear from anyone interested in riding out sometime, I’m Wiltshire based so judging from the owners list there’s not many of you guys near by.
Cheers
Blue
It worked!!
Hi Blue, always willing to travel for a ride out with other spyder owners. I am planning to get over to coventry soon for a ride with Martin.
Hi Jim
Thanks for the response,
I tried a reply on my Blackberry however that doesn’t appear to have worked.
If you keep me in the loop maybe we can hook up sometime for a ride out. It’d be good to meet a few other riders and see what’s cooking on the Spyder scene.
cheers

Hi Blue and everyone, Last week I exchanged my RT sports forthe RT Techno in blue from Adrenalin ATV very pleased with it.
Have had all sorts of problems with Bikesure started off with an additional premium £340 reduced that to £63 but required having a tracked and fitted together with a Thatcham cat2.imobliser
Complained again and now today said go to Halfords and get a Cat 3 chain or wheel lock for £40. my annual premium £390
Where do I go from there. Anyone had problems with them like that
Halfords have a sale lol
Taff
Hi Taff
Subsequently to my last post on Bike Sure I got screwed over slightly!
They phoned me back after allegedly only receiving some of my paperwork that I had sent to them. This was odd as I has personally stapled it all together and posted it!
Basically they gave me a 50% discount due to my full no claims on my other policies which was great, the bit they failed to highlight was that they don’t accept commercial policies!? They then proceeded to charge me a further £150.00ish more to stay insured.
I argued best I could and reclaimed the poxy £25.00 admin charge that they were going to charge me for altering the policy, Rubbish!
They’ve got a monopoly on the Spyder and we’re totally at their mercy. They need competition to level the playing field so we’re not held to ransome.
That aside I had an awesome weekend of riding. I’ve been out virtually everyday since I picked the beast up. Any excuse and I’m out on her. I had a sprint up the M4 over the weekend and turned a few heads, especially the black Lambo who baited me a little. I see points on the horizon. Took in Avebury too which was fantastic. The place was rammed with tourists and crazys warming up for the Solistice. The roads around that area are a great ride.I’m the only rider that I know of locally so as you’ll know you do attract a lot of attention. I can see this getting tiresome eventually however it’s cool for now.
Cheers

Insurance…….!
Bit of a nightmare for all by the sounds of it? I managed to get a quote through TheBikeInsurer.co.uk 08000 890891 as well as Bikesure. Bikesure wanted to charge me £600 (without any bike NCD) but then doubled it as I had a car claim nearly 3yrs ago.? WHAT? No choice but to go with The Bike Insurer for £650 (think it’s through R+SunAlliance). Dead jealous reading your riding stories, still waiting for mine to arrive?
Hi Sean
What have got on the way?
cheers
Blue
Spyder RS S SE5 – The White one
Waiting for the next batch of them getting to Belgium?? Hurry up……….
Nice!
Hi Sean, Re: The premium they are asking you to pay, go back to them and ask them to take another look at their calculation and quote the premiums you now know that they have given to others, it seams that each clerk decides on an amount and hope they an get away with it.
If I had accepted their first and second offer I would be paying over £700 plus a tracker and Thatcham Cat 2 security lock with £85 annual fee for the traker.
What the H—- are the playing at.
Any way good luck and happy riding
Taff
my insurance renewal was £555 with bikesure they knocked off administration fee i paid £530 must have a chain lock on when i leave anywhere, and locked in the garage between 10 at night and 6 in the morning, done on line quote with bikesure came up at £360 when i rang them about it they said if i paid it on line at that price they would cancel the policy as it is a mistake on their computer, they lost some of my paperwork as well which was all stapled together.
My friend just got nailed £650 from Bike sure!!!!!!! Scandal.
I think they make the figures up by picking the numbers at random out of a bag and then doubling it. Granted he didn’t have any personal no claims but £650 seems very steep?
Hi Jeff
Reference your home page message about activity on the site I thought I ought to mention I would be one of those unregistered people! I have actually e-mailed you my details to register however didn’t hear back from you? How else do I register? Maybe the e-mail went adrift or got junked.
I’m more than happy for my e-mail address to be shown as any other riders who want to chat or ride out are welcome to contact me. bluestone6@hotmail.com Wiltshire based.
Incidently there will be another new face joining us soon as my best friend has just purchased a Spyder from Adrenalin too. The ranks swell….slightly with another thirty something rider!
Cheers
Blue
Hi Blue
Just got back of holiday, I have checked through my email’s never got your’s?? Anyhow will register you as owner in next few day’s, got quite a bit to catch up on. I’m pleased to see so much more activity on the site, its a pity its all about insurance, I will send email to BikeSure and BRP and ask them to comment on this blog, but wont hold my breath as BRP don’t talk to me anymore.
Regard’s Jeff
Hi Jeff
No worries and thanks for the reply.
I had a bit of a trek to Adrenalin over the weekend to drop off my mate to collect his new ride. The trip up was pretty good despite his hulking weight and size making the ride pretty challenging. We rode for a while mixed up in a bunch of Victory riders which was really good. They had some beautiful machines, apparently heading to some American bike thing somewhere.
The ride home was equally as challenging as my mate had never so much as riden a scooter let alone a Spyder. He coped well enough but needless to say it was a long ride. He’s now practicing every opportunity so I forsee some pretty good road trips ahead. We’re hopefully going to some bike event hosted in our area on the 24th July.I’d imagine we’ll be the only Spyders there unless anyone else fancys joining us?.
It’s on the net-Calne rotary club annual bike day,Taking in the famous Bowood estate on the planned ride out. It takes over the whole town i’ve heard.
Cheers
Blue
Hi Jeff. Will you do the necessary to register me as a new owner, member or whatever? I’d like to be a part of an evidently healthy scene, and look forward to meets, rdeouts etc. Anybody within reach of Hitchin (North Herts.) please get in touch.
Ian.
Hello to all you Spyder Ryders ,
I’m waiting to hear from Can am about a ryde out sometime this year. They told me they would be organising 1 whilst I was in Austria at the home coming. Hopefully more ryders= more fun, 352 bikes attended the home coming. It was spectacular.
Hi Jim
That sounds interesting however knowing Can Am and the current financial climate I won’t be holding my breath!
Has anyone ever organised a track day get together?
Andrew at Adrenalin mentioned a possible day at Mallory.
I’m thinking about trying out Castle combe as they do bike track days every Wednesday at the moment. I’m quite keen to see what the Spyder can do on a track.
cheers
Blue
Hi Jim
Glad to here you enjoyed Austria, how many from the UK? if you get the time let me have some info with regard the best bit’s and your route there and back, also any pic’s would be great only jpeg please.
Just got back from Canada fantastic road’s but only saw 2 Spyder’s in 14 days and 2000 miles, hundred’s of other bikers in all shapes and size’s.
Regards Jeff
did online quote with bikesure last night £313 for rs £515 for rts ,i paid £530 for rs in may.
Hi everyone I am changing my e-mail address to rees.davies4083@btinternet.com
Anyone travelling in the North Staffordshire area or going into North Wales let me know as I go in that direction often .This new model the RT Techno is a great fab. touring trike have now completed 1,150 in just over 3 weeks, going for the first service next week.
Happy riding to all,
Taff
Fitted a tank bag yesterday and was starting to think it was a major ball ache for not a lot of gain however once it was fitted I changed my mind, Can Am could have been a little more generous with the webbing lengths though.
Has anyone got any views on the solid removable luggage?
I saw some fitted the other day on someone’s ride at Adrenalin and thought they looked very good as well as practical. I liked the coloured coding which enhanced the rear aspect of the bike which was surprising as normally luggage just looks rubbish! They seemed to clip on and off the bike with ease turning into handy suitcases.
They’d only be for very occasional use so quite an expensive addition so weighing it all up at the moment.
Hi folks,
Is this site still operational and being used ???
If so, I really need some advice and honest opinions ….
My husband and I are currently saving for a second-hand Spyder RS (2008ish, SM5 probably) and are having difficulty finding Spyder owners to talk to for help and advice.
We are interesting in learning more about the practicalities of Spyder ownership i.e. …
1. Cost of general maintenance & upkeep i.e. tyres, insurance, servicing costs etc.
2. Vehicle handing on narrow twisty roads ( we’re in Fife, Scotland ). Is the VSS and STC really as good as the promotional videos make out? i.e. do you feel safe?
Manual v Semi-Automatic gearbox ( an open discussion about both would be very helpful here ). I fancied the Manual gearbox to keep the controls similar to a bike, but the auto seems much effortless!
3. For bikers – how did you find the transition to three wheels and did you encounter any problems when you got back on two wheels? ( I currently ride a Suzuki SV650, but a intermittant medical condition means I often can’t use my bike – the Spyder will be a replacement for the bike until I’m better ).
Any Spyder related thoughts would be most welcome.
There’s only one Dealer in Scotland and they’ve only sold 23 throughout the entire country so owners are few and far between.
If you don’t mind taking the time to assist us in our research, I would be very grateful if you would email lou_hewitt@hotmail.co.uk. with genuine opinions,
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Happy three-wheeling!
Lou
Hi Lou and welcome………… come on you Spyder Owners this is something to get your teeth into!!!!!! someone who needs your advise.
Jeff
Hi Lou, Just read your proposal to buy a spyder. I am on my second spyder first was an RS but changed that after one year to the RT in blue, the best thing I have ever done was to buy a spyder never had so much fun and I am now 77yrs old I have had this machine 10 weeks and now completed just over 2,000 miles. I belong as a social member to the Triumph club in Leek Staffordshire and we ride out quite alot.
Two weeks ago I was south bound from Shrewsbury to Ludlow and saw an RT Spyder going north who was that I wonder. The RT is a great touring machine
Will be going south to the Ludlow area again soon.
Happy riding you guys
Taff
Hi Taff, how are you keeping, like to say is was me on the RT, but don’t have one anymore
glad to here you are still enjoying the Spyder.
Best Regards Jeff
Welcome Lou
Well I’ve had my spyder since June 08 and love it. If your serious, get along for a test ride, but make sure its not just “round the block”. Mine is the SM model, and although I refer to her as a bike, she is not !!!! I feel that many have bought a Spyder with this in mind, but in my opinion the way to ride is forget bike and think hooligan. She loves to perform in the higher rev band 6 to 10 thou where the performance is stunning.Mind, if you want to plod around she will, but is not too happy at it. As for the safety bits, I can almost let her take over and feel very safe with that technology. The thing to learn is to lean your body weight into the corners so shifting your centre of gravity to the inside of bends, sometimes you have to be fairly mobile if on lovely twisty roads. I Have been very satisfied with mine so far, and would I buy again, Yes.
You have probably read about the Insurance issues in as much as the choice of company is very limited indeed. I get about 30 to the gallon if fairly steady, but less if Im “playing” Servicing is no more than any superbike in my area. Consumables, tyres, brake pads etc dont wear out any quicker than a big bike.
Hope this is a help,
Spyderider
Hey gang,
Had my first experience on the fun machine today. Loved it. Spent 10 years watching other people riding bikes since my accident and now I’m back. Felt great.
Got the RS S Auto, had a brake lever put on the bars. getting a rack made to carry my wheelchair on the back.
Happy chappy.!
Cheers and look forward to meeting up with fellow Spyder Ryders for a spin.
Sean
p.s Insured with M.C.E – there’s another out there for you to try now?
Thanks guys for your input to my query … keep them coming
Thank you Spyderider too – that’s the sort of feedback I’m looking for – much appreciated
Any info is welcome and taken very seriously.
It’s a lot of money to spend, so we need to be 100% sure we’ve chosen the correct machine / model / gearbox etc.
More information and advise please !!!!
On any aspect of Spyder Ryding!
Good news about the other insurer now – that might help bring costs down if Bikesure have a competitor
Lou
x
Hi Lou
I agree with SpyderRider,
I have an se5 and you certainly get the best out of them when riding it like you’ve just stolen it!
Body attitude at speed through the bends is essential if you’re pushing the performance of the machine as they don’t steer like a quad or drive like a car. It helps a great deal to not be bolt upright welded to the seat as you’ll discover the forces of nature will mess with you, It’s a fairly odd sensation initially which can be slightly unnerving however soon passes with experience. I originally though I’d have a manual to keep things interesting however now having had the se5 would never go back. It is simplicity itself and leaves you to enjoy the ride and concentrate on those idiot car drivers who will be swerving into you whilst gauping at the bike.
The other thing is wet riding. People will say I wish you could remove the traction control so we can play with it more, Trust me when I say you would never want to ride one without it in the wet. Due to the engine and wheel configuration the rear end will break free at a drop of a hat in the wet. This said it’s a safe as it possibly could be and you’ll hardly notice anything has happened except a climb in revs and some loss of forward momentum. A mild fish tail at most if you’re fooling about with it. The loss of forward traction can catch you out if you pin it open as you’ll end up in 5th gear without moving an inch. Not good at a junction or dodging traffic on the motorway in torrential rain as I discovered!
All in all these bikes are an awesome ride in everyway, they go like sh#t out of a goose, they look fantastic and seem to appeal to everyone, they’re so easy to ride even for beginners and are so much safer than two wheels, what’s not to like!!
I’m not into the touring look personally as the sporty look is more my thing however I can still appreciate the practicality of the tourers with their comfort and mod cons. I’ll probably even get luggage some day soon as even they look good on the Spyder especially as they clip on and off so easily.
You won’t regret a purchase that is for sure.
Good luck
Blue
Cheers Blue,
I agree about the unnerving sensation when first cornering on a Spyder – we test-rode one a few weeks ago from a dealer, and both hated it for the first ten minutes, then as your mind adjusts to the realisation that it’s not a bike, it gets better! LOL
I also originally wanted the SM5, but having read up on the SE5 am swaying my preference towards that.
Thanks for the info about the wet-weather traction – I’ve never read anything about that yet from an Owner, so found it very informative, and something to be very aware of the first time we get caught out with our Scottish Rain!!!!
The luggage seems horrendously expensive, but we also will probably opt for that at some point in time – one of the purposes of this purchase is to do more touring. My husband’s current steed, an R1, is not really the best machine for long distances!
QUESTION – for those of you who have the rear rack and pillion seat-back … what difference does it make to the stability of your pillion rider?
The Spyder we test-rode didn’t have the seat- back and I found the ride very uncomfortable, clinging on to the grips for dear life in fear of being thrown off the back under the acceleration.
Keep the info coming – every bit helps!
Ta
Lou
Hi Lou,
In response to the pillion backrest..I wouldnt go on the bike without it. Its a far comfier ride, you can just relax and enjoy the ride. Hubby (the driver) says it doesn’t make any difference to the handling. I little expensive to buy, but worth every penny as far as I’m concerned. Have you looked at the panniers from Corbin? They certainly look the bizz, and half the price. take care.
Karen.
Hi Karen
Which panniers from Corbin are you refering to as I’ve only seen those sleek fancy ones that look very streamline on the Corbin site? They look very nice especially from the rear however I’m not convinced they’re removeable from what i’ve read and cost in the region of £1500.00-£1800.00 in the uk!! The Givi removeable suitcase ones are a third of that and still look pretty good. Probably going to get some for those odd days when I have to take some extra kit somewhere.
Cheers
Blue
According to my other half she claims she has almost fallen asleep on the back of the bike it was so comfy safely nestled into the rest. I have heard this said before from another rider too. Personally I think taking a pillion without a rear rest is asking for trouble. They’re well thought out and do the job perfectly. They even look pretty good when you colour coordinate them with the bike.
Due to your riding position being spaced forward away from your pillion it makes riding the Spyder unlike a sports bike etc where the rear passenger can hug into you for safety and support. The handbook suggests a degree of separation between you and the rear so not to inhibit your driving capabilities hence the ample side bars or as I refer to them the “FM” bars (insert your own take on that)
The acceleration capabilities of the Spyder would make life very hairy for a pillion just gripping onto the bars to stay seated. They’re so simple to fit and remove it’s totally pointless not to have one if you intend sharing a ride.
The ride characteristics of the bike changes massively when two up especially if the dear on the rear is a big girl or your best pal is 6’4 and weights 18st. Thankfully the Mrs is tiny but the pal is a monster and makes the Spyder a whole new challenge especially if you don’t adjust the suspension. Watch out for potential tripoding, which will be dealt with by the traction control but can make you pucker up slightly, Also allow for the steering to play tricks on you in bends and roundabouts. The key is to slow down, use body attitude where possible, keep the pillion away from you and encourage them to mirror you and the road, don’t forget leaning will help the dynamics but won’t steer the machine, you have to turn the bars positively yet smoothly. It’s just practice really
backrest is excellent mrs wont get on without it.
Hi You guys, I agree about the comfort on the spyder having had one for a year but you should try the RT,thats real comfort, you could almost fall a sleep riding it, lol, it is a total different ride and with heated grips and cruise control large windscreen it spoils you for anything else. I have ridden passenger on the RS without a back rest and I did not like it one bit I did not feel safe.
There is a bike and car classic show at Capsthorne Hall Sunday 29th which is north of Congleton towards Alderley Edge on the A34. If the weather is good I will be going with my RT.
Cheers for now
Taff.
Cheers again folks,
I’ll be the main rider, but I think if we do go twos-up, it’ll be hubby piloting and myself on the back. I’m 8-stone and 5’4″ and hubby is a tad heavier and 5’11″, so I think he’d prefer me to be pillion! LOL
It’s nice to hear that a pillion can get so relaxed when seated against the back-rest. I think one of these is a must after hearing everyone’s opinion – I didn’t feel safe without one either. It obviously makes a LOT of difference
We don’t fancy the RT model – it’s a huge beastie, and as the Spyder is to be a replacement for my bike, I’d rather have the slightly “sportier” RS, although the heated grips on the RT are VERY appealing LOL
QUESTION – has anybody had any mechanical problems, i.e. breakdowns, overheating, etc etc? Do you have to take it back to your dealer for repairs to keep it under warranty?
Also, has anybody with an early 2008 plate Spyder looked into where they’re going to have to take it to get MOT’d? Are the Dealers the only places with certificates to MOT them?
Ta
Lou
Hi Lou
With regards to overheating thing, there’s no doubt these machines do run hot in slow traffic on a summers day. It’s a big old lump shrouded in fancy plastics etc so enviably they’re going to start warming up pretty quick. The consolation is on wet or cold days it’s quite a comfort. I have read something on an American site about dodgy temperature gauges and dealers forgetting to remove sensor covers or something to that effect but in general no issues.
Mondial covers the breakdown thing initially. They’re basically an AA/RAC type of group catering for Spyders in the UK and all over Europe. Probably best to Google them for more info or ask a dealer. Dealer wise I personally only use one which on this side of the border seems a very popular choice and for good reason. The lads at Adrenalin ATV http://www.adrenalinatv.co.uk Andrew & Nathan are the Spyder and quad gurus you need to be talking to! I’ve had two top end performance race quads and my current SE5 from them. They’re not exactly local to me either however I make the effort to stay loyal to them as it’s worth it for the service you receive, I appreciate however my trek to them is nothing compared to you in Scotland!! It is worth touching base with them though as they’re a tried and tested dealer who do actually know what they’re talking about. I’m sure others will agree. Might want to ask them if they do a snow plough for the Spyder too being you’re in sunny Scotland, ha
cheers
Blue
Hi Blue,
I’d read about the dealers forgetting to install the temperature sensors too – I just wondered if that had been a problem in the UK too.
The heat that comes through the vents is quite high though – a bonus for us Scots
Even on a beautiful summers day here, it’s never very warm – not for me anyway – I’m always frozen.
Surprisingly enough, i think our winters are milder than the south of England! They just last longer! And any snow doesn’t hang around for long, as we stay very close to the coast so the roads are usually fairly clear, albeit covered in salt and crud.
I might actually pick up the phone and contact Adrenalin ATV for some advice – the Dealer in Scotland is fairly new and although the guys there were very helpful, there were several questions which they couldn’t answer, and on several specific areas I had more information than them – just because I’d done some research and investigation before going into the Dealership.
Your Dealer is just a bit too far for us to venture to on a wee day-out! LOL
i think any Spyder we buy will be second-hand and therefore probably won’t have the warranty/breakdown advantages of a new machine, but it’s good to know that there is a company who specialises in Spyders – whether they’ll have many operators in Scotland is a different story though.
Cheers
Lou
Hi Lou
Yeah buzz them,nothing to loose,
I bought my Spyder second hand from them with lots of extras, still under warranty and with Mondial cover for a year so the second hand option is still a pretty good one. Spyders do hold their money quite well so dont be supprised if you end up paying between £11500.00-£13000.00 for a unit which isn’t a million miles away from a new price. The thing to remember are the extras that the previous owner has already shelled out for which you don’t….and we all know what the Scots are like for parting with their money eh!! lol! You’ll be wanting the Sports exhaust, spoked wheels, sports rack and back rest, maybe a seat skin, trunk liner etc. It’s quite possible it’ll be all on the bike when you buy it so keep your eyes peeled for a good one. This little lot will set you back quite a packet so that’s where the second hand market triumps. Speak to Andrew is my best advice. Now hop down off of that fence and go and find a machine!!
Cheers
Blue
Yip
The accessories that we’re after total £2,493 !!!
But we think it’ll a be all worth it.
As for getting off the fence … I wish! We’re still saving the pennies yet – it’ll take a few months yet to get all the cash together for even the bike, never mind all the extras. There’s a few gone with ebay in the last couple of weeks for under £11k, so we’ve got out fingers crossed that a bargain will crop up around the time that we’ve got the cash ready. We’ll see.
I’m impatient though! LOL I want one now so we can get the rest of the summer out of it! I can’t use my bike, so I feel a bit restless and grumpy! LOL
L
hello Everyone ive got phantom all black and live in Bury North Manchester anyone fancy starting a Monthly Meet in the local Area
Hi John
Nice thought, however not wishing to sound negative about the Spyder scene, and judging by the traffic on this site, if Jeff can’t encourage more interest after all his efforts I think you’ll be lucky to find many if any people to organise a monthly meet! Now a one off get together maybe at a decent venue like a race track might hustle some people and interest? I rode out today with my pal on his Phantom so I guess I’m lucky to have a wingman but in general it appears to be an almost too elite club. It can be a lonely road!!
Good luck
Cheers
Blue
Hi Blue
Thanks for your reply just met up with another rider from preston so things are looking up
Had this for nearly 2 years now and only ever seen two others
There is a red one i have spotted at Rivington barn near chorley Lancs so maybe a few near to me
Lets Hope
cheers
John
Hi John
Nice one!….Spot the Spyder rider.
Some other motoring websites i’ve seen have a ‘was it you’ section where you can post a.. was it you.. on such a such road.. at whatever time etc etc which seems like a good idea, especially for the rare lesser spotted Spyder rider!
Good news about hooking up with the Preston rider.
cheers
Blue
Yes ok I am on for that, I am north of Stoke-on-Trent 10 niles from Congleton and sandbatch cheshire Taff
Hello boys and girls.
Have just read on another site that BRP are recalling all spyders built prior to August for a steering unit replacement. You may have read that some riders have complained that their steering feels ‘notchy’, even after the recall to update the software, well we are all going to get a letter telling us to book in for a replacement unit. All I can say is well done BRP, we have waited a long time for this, and I for one have not had any problems, but as they say “better safe than sorry”.
INSURANCE ….
Just had quotes for 2010 brand new Spyder RS-S SE5 ( with 3yrs NCD, bike licence for 4 yrs, car licence for 21 years & being 38 yrs young )
Bikesure 0800 089 2000= £662.06
The Bike Insurer 08000 890891= £496.40 !!!!!!! Woohoo! A helluva difference!
The guy at The Bike Insurer says they will beat ANY quote given by Bikesure for any model of Spyder.
Happy days! LOL
Well worth a call
Hi Lou
NO WAY!!!…..Another Spyder rider under 50 I don’t believe it lol
(no offence you more distiguished riders out there)
WestonBeach Race 2010
Is anyone riding to Weston this year for the beach race?
I’m planning on riding there Saturday in time for the Quads and again on Sunday for the Solos if anyone fancys meeting up on the way to cruise down there.
Good meeting points on my route would be jct17 M4 Leigh Delamare Services, M5 Gordano services (Bristol)
Cheers

Got my RS S all kitted up for my Wheelchair now, will post photo’s soon. It’s pretty easy and now feel totally independant. Enjoying getting back into the biker scene and doing the weekend Cafe routes and shops. Feels like I’m home – loving it! Anyone near St Neots, Cambs and fancy a ride out?
Hi Sean. I’m in Hitchin – near enough? Drop me a line.
Ian
Hi Pict,
Been following all the posts and stuff going on recently, good banter leading upto Christmas, liked it. Great to see more Spyder Ryders on here and looking forward to hooking up next year.
Hitchein is great for me, so I’m up for some ride outs when weather improves as I’m out the country most of the winter.
Keep in touch and have a Happy New Year
Woohoo! Finally got off the fence, and put down a deposit on a new RS-S SE5 and take delivery of it mid-November
A friend has pre-named it ( rather aptly I thought ) .. Wincy!
LOL
Hi Lou
Just read Jeffs post, must have missed your falling off the fence moment,
Good to hear you’ve ordered your Spyder, Good choice too,
Andrew mentioned a Lou who had called and might visit, was that you?
You just need to order some artic thermals now for all that Scottish summer riding lol
Did anyone else get the Recall letter today for the steering upgrade?
Yeah got mine. Had already spoken with James at 158 Performance and he told me to expect it.
Suppose I can spare a day through the winter to get it done! lol
Better to be safe than sorry! Can’t say I fancy a head on with a lorry,
Going to try and get mine done at Adrenalin when I go up for the Mallory trike track day at the end of October.
What…….!!!!!
Mallory Track day end of Oct.??
You booked in, any spare spots, whats happening?
you got me all excited now………..
Yes I received mine today but they do’nt have the parts in yet for the RT model
Hang on a minute!!!!! that’s 3 posts in 3 minutes compared with the normal 3 posts in 3 months…must be a record! ha
What the hell is happening!!!!! at least 12 posts in the last few day, it’s really good to see.
With regard DPS, mine failed at the Ansty event last year, some may remember, it packed up at the meeting point on the way to Ansty but we still carried on with the weekend, it just made the steering very heavy at low speeds, the problem is if it fails whilst riding, as you could over react on a bend, I was told that the DPS didn’t really have any effect over 50mph and rode home without a problem, this was after the first recall for the software upgrade had been done. Had it picked up under the Mondial scheme, Adrenalin fixed it, job done and was fine, I have sent new owner John, in Dublin notice of recall, just in case BRP don’t advise him.
Would anybody mind if I came to Mallory, to see a cluster again, Andrew n Nathen have been talking about doing this for 2 year’s let me know the detail.
Good to hear Lou has orderd an RS, but “Wincy” it sounds a bit mincy to me and a Spyder is anything but mincy!!!!!! but who am I to comment just an ex grumpy owner.
Ryde safe regard’s Jeff
Hi Sean
So i’m led to believe by Andrew.
Apparently it is a trike track day at Mallory park where we can use the track.
I’ve lost the dates again altough i’m pretty sure it’s at the end of October.
I think he told me that a notice was going out about it but nothing has appeared yet.
Am I missing something with the way the posts appear on this blog as without an e-mail prompt I wouln’t have known you had replied as your post got mixed into previous posts therefore becoming rather tricky to find?
Think thats the way. Email lets you know, then need to look up to see where it’s replying to?
I’m Interested in this track day if anyone has news please post it.
Not the best method i’m sure although when there’s a reply prompt I think it follows on. Soon see when I send this one back!
Are you up for a track day then if it’s on? I was considering going to Castle Combe my local track for a blast.
ooooohh yes.!
Castle Combe bit of a treck for me, but could be pursuaded as my mate does track days there as well. Definately up for Mallory.!
Have to see if the Mallory one happens if not i’m up for a track day somewhere,
We’ll have to arrange a meet or something?
I am up for that, not heard anything about a track day anywhere.
I think it’s time the dealers set up a meet for everyone some where in the middle of the uk. Aday ride out or general meet. Last week met up with another owner and his wife on an RS up on the Ponderosa. We could meet up like that , for me it’s about 70 miles any takers
Hi Taff
Always up for a ride out and get together.
You’re right about the lack of encouragement from the manufacturers, my dealers spot on however you’d have thought BRP would make an effort for such a unique head turning promo vehicle!?
PS, Still had no interest from any riders heading to the Weston Beach race this month who want to meet up!?
Hi Blue, Taff
With regard meetings and BRP envolvement, I knocked my head against this brick wall for 18 month’s, its nice when you stop, although I do miss my Spyder, I’m convinced the dealers could do more although they all plead poverty.
It’s ironic but I recently received an Ambassador pack, which enables me to give 250 Euro vouchers to potential buyer’s, the cheek of it , we invest our £0000, show of the product and now introduce customers and we should be happy that they allowed us to buy the machine, this must be what the Americans call “work smarter not harder” all owners are Ambassador’s, I’m thinking of putting my vouchers on EBay for .99p I wonder if Lou got their’s.
Jeff (ex owner of the year 2009 got the Tshirt, certificate and a trophy)
Hi Jeff
I’ve even been out and met people who have contacted me via this site and done demos, one guy even had a little roll around a car park on mine, If it means more riders I don’t really mind as it gets me out and about although it’d be good if there were some incentives out there too.
Hi Blue, Apart from love at first sight, this was just the same for me , I was convinced that it would be a bit of a cult I loved going out meeting and chatting to different people, at times I must have sounded like a salesman, started the website to try and get owners together, but as you said it’s almost like, a too elite club, mind you it does cost thousands to join.
After the 1st year I approached dealers for support they couldn’t afford it and suggested I contact BRP, this is really when you start against a brick wall, I have never come across a company in all my years in business like them, so it was the end of the road.
Since you started blogging it has created a great response just like I hoped at the beginning. Thanks!
In November the site will close but I will leave the blog running while owners use it.
All the best Jeff
Ps. How many are members of the Ambassadors Club, I thought BRP would have sent it to all owners?
Hi Jeff
Yeah I’ve been really surprised at the general apathy towards the site and community in general especially if you compare it to Quad heaven and other similar groups of like-minded people.
It is a pity and slightly disappointing as having been part of the quad racing community I know how social this all could be.
A Spyder riding pal of mine said for him it’s a luxury not a lifestyle so maybe people just aren’t interested or it’s a case of not bothered, strange really as the foreign groups seem so active and do so much!?
I have no idea what the ambassadors club is to be honest so have no idea on numbers.
As for generating responses since joining I guess it’s just a by-product of being interested. I love to ride out with company and try and ride most days if only to post a letter or collect some shopping. Might as well get my moneys worth out of the beast.
I’d love to race again although I think that might be a bridge too far financially as pranging one of these would be pricey for sure. Itching for this track day though.
Hi Blue, Spyders racing that’s something I’d like to see.
Ambassador Club, I received this pack from BRP Switzerland and just forgot about it. As an Ambassador you get a membership card and “Share the Passion.. Reap the Rewards” as they say I have 30 x 250 Euro coupons that a prospective buyer can redeem against parts or accessories and for this the referree receives the same. If I find 30 buyers maybe they will give half a bike, look into it.
Jeff
Good luck with that!!
That Mallory day is on the 30/31st October however I have no confirmation or further info relating to it. It kind of indirectly got outed when I mentioned I was going to try and get my recall done at the same time as I was there for that so I hope it’s on now especially as couple of you are up for it.
Like so many others, I tried to get something going but eventually gave up. Why is it that we have an increasing ownership (so we are told) but apathy abounds. Even BRP
ignore us.
I too have had my pack to encourage me to sell the Spyder !!!!!!!!! along with my letter for the replacement of the steering unit, ( this goes hand in hand , HUH !!!!) I have had two occasions when steering went a bit funny, but since the software update it seems better, or is this wishful thinking ?
Anyhow, I enjoy riding mine but can understand the feelings of others.
So, turn up the wick and enjoy your riding
Spyderider
Maybe we… as in the ones who might be interested ought to hook up somewhere next year when the weather improves.
It’d probably be best at a well known bikers haunt like the Ace Cafe or something similar then there’s no set up considerations or cost involved. Just turn up if you want to? London is a pretty cool venue in general even if we just went to a major park for a drink and a chat.
Anyone have any views on doing something like that?
i have got ambassador pack and recall for power steering,i am up for a meet up next year when weather a bit better.
Nice one,
We’ll see how many riders are interested and go from there.
Everyone can just register interest on this thread and we’ll sort something out between us all over Winter.
I’m well interested in meeting up next year and even over the next few weeks.
Blue are you going to ring Mallory, to ask about the Trike day and how to register, etc or do you want me know?
cheers
Sean
As soon as I know anything concrete i’ll let you all know so we can figure out if there’s any route hook ups.
Apparently the dates are 30/31st October but I have no further info or confirmation.
It may just turn out to be a no go so fingers crossed.
Cheers
no worries, speak soon
Hey Blue,
Have you heard anything about Mallory?
Ta,
Sean
Hi Everyone,
I would be interested in any “mass spyder” get together. My spyder is booked in to Adrenalin week commencing 24th October for the steering issue. I wrote my 1st 1 off last year, it was a steering problem, but no one will admit it was this steering problem that caused it. Instead it cost me thousands, not to mention the rise in insurance.
Hi Jim
Unlucky situation to be in, a big can of worms there i’m sure!!
Names showing interest for a get together somewhere at some point…so far are

Seven of us so far, Fair play boys not bad for a quick poll of interest,
Shall we start pooling ideas for a location or just go for somewhere well known which shouldn’t be too hard to get to.
I suggested a bikers haunt like the Ace Cafe or a major capital park, I’ve never been to Ace, have no idea how to get there however I know it’d be London so that’d be my suggestion for now. I guess everyone knows where London is!? Ha,
Hi Jim
When my steering went if’y and you told me about your accident last year at Ansty it did cross my mind, are you taking it any further. Good to see yall planning a cluster, as I don’t have bike maybe I’ll borrow a trannie van and be your support ( it will have to have flashing lights)
Good luck Jeff
there will probably be two of us ,might be two wives as well ,hotel for a night might be a good idea, have a chat and a meal or something simular.
that will make 8
wifey will be with me too. lol
Count me in.
Just a thought. The Ace Cafe Run to Southend takes place on the Easter Bank Holiday Monday each year..Thousands of bikes and a few trikes as well. This year there was a grand total of Four Spyders in attendance, not many I agree but worth it.
Any thoughts ????????????????
spyderider
I might fall off the edge of the earth if I go that far LOL.
It’s certainly a good option.
I’ve just looked at Ace’s web site and they are seriously busy with events.
There is no shortage of options if we use them as a Rally point that’s for sure .
Updated list of potential interest for a meet up and ride out in the New Year,
Keep ideas coming in everyone and we’ll vote on it at some point,

had a word with mate tonight he said he is up for it , his name is dennis.
Not wishing to ‘pimp my ride’ for no good reason I was wondering if anyone else has got the Glo-ryder wheel lights fitted?
I’ve seen them online and think they’re a good idea as I feel the Spyder is in general tricky to see from the rear and side aspects in fading light and darkness.
PG’s (AKA ‘The Black knight’) Spyder is Phantom black and with his black gear on he’s almost invisible except for the standard tail light and white stripe across the back of his Richa jacket, it’s even worse from the side.
Me however despite using the pseudonym Blue actually fit my comms handle ‘The Red Ranger’ far better as my ride is bright red along with my helmet, Jacket Gloves etc, therefore providing a far more obvious unit on the road. I do take some piece of mind from this however never take it for granted.
Judging by the online photos of the Glo-ryder they do seem to look/work better on the stock tri spoke wheels against the mag 6 spoke variety. It’d be interesting to hear from anyone who’s got them in the flesh for an appraisal. If they’re worth having I may import some,
Check them out at gloryder.com
Cheers
PS
I will add Dennis and Jim’s….Wifey to the ride out list on the next updated list.
Anymore ideas out there yet?….don’t strain yourselves thinking too hard on this everyone!! Ha

How about the ponderosa cafe above Llangollen and the horse shoe pass.
It’s fairly central to the UK .
For me London is going on 200 miles one way, to do that and return in one day would be too much I think. Then there is Southport that has a lbike meet most Sundays
All these places is approx 100 miles drive one way which I am happy to do.
Hi Taff, I live about 10 miles from Southport, If ever you decide to come this way, give me a call 01772616770, or 07752502121, I can meet up with you. I’m thinking of doing a good ride out this hot, sunny weekend, possibly Devils bridge on Sunday if anyone fancies it!
Hi All,
Anybody had the DPS recall carried out yet. If yes, how is it now, as I have not any probs with steering so far.
If you have,
1, how long did it take
2When and where did you have it done?
The reason I ask is that nearly two weeks ago I E-mailed my supplier asking what their position was on this regarding booking in etc. and have not had a reply yet !?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
Hi,
I’m having mine done at Adrenalin and apparently it only takes an hour or so….so i’ve been told!!
I though my steering felt heavy last week whilst changing gears during a 3 point turn in a confined space although when I started moving again it was fine, Hopefully it won’t catch me out on a roundabout,
Reply to Jeff’s query about me receiving the Ambassaor pack …
Wincy’s still not registered yet, so I’ll have to wait another few weeks yet. ( 3 weeks on Friday, but I’m not counting !!!!!! )
I think I’d be a bit gob-smacked if i were to take the keys to my shiny new Spyder in one hand, and be presented with an incentive pack to sell it in the other hand!
Oh, and the name “Wincy” may be a bit mincy, but my yellow SV650 was called “Bumble”, so I’m just really keeping a trend going! LOL. I thought the name Wincy Spyder was quite inspired. Och, I’m happy … leave me alone
Even happier in three weeks!!!!
Woohoo!

P.S. no sign of any other Scottish owners out there!!!! Am I all on my own?
Hi Lou,
Your not alone North of the border. On ma 2nd Spyder with over 9000 miles under ma belt. Any posts that I have put on the site are on the first comment page which is obviously different from here. Usually go out at any sign of not too bad weather so if you want to go out for a wee blast sometime then just give me a holler.
I am in Central Scotland but never worry about the milage. Occasionally meet up with another Spyder owner from roughly the same area whenever we can for ride out. Post a comment or get in touch by email and might even get a few ride outs organised before the real bad weather. Watching this space
Hi there David!
Woohoo! Another Scots SpyderRyder! I was beginning to despair LOL
We picked up our RSS SE5 on 12/11 and are desperately weather-watching to try to get out for runs so that we can get the first service done before the worst of the weather.
We’re in Fife, so it’s a bit of a trek in the winter through to Glasgow for the services, but never mind – needs must, eh?
I’ll holler if we’re out for a day-trip once the temperature allows. It would be lovely to meet some more Spyder owners. We’re alone in Fife it seems!

Lou
anyone fancy a ride out to Ace’s Cafe London this Sunday (24th)?
I’m heading that way for a spin arrive about 11am ish?
Might c ya there
Hi Sean
I might be able to make it, I need to sort a few things out first and I’ll let you know, If you could e-mail me your number I could text or phone confirmation etc.

Re: Mallory it’s a no go however I may have something up my sleeve for 2011 and it is only a maybe so i’ll keep you posted in due course.
In the mean time I’ll keep on with the rideout/meet up organisation that we’ve been chatting about recently,
cheers
dps unit was changed 20 th october, dont know how long it took i wasent there seemed to have made the steering alot lighter, i have only ridden it ten miles since it was done will try it this weekend if i get chance.
Our syder was in for the recall yesterday. Hubby has seen another 1 he would like. Now all I have to do is convince him to get it. Pearly white..mmmm
we fancy a white next year, there are some new colours coming out in 2011 models so it says on brp website.
mettalic grey looks nice as well, will have to wait till i see one to make our mind up.
Just to confirm I saw no Spyders in the 30oc heat and sunshine of Lanzarote last week…I can also confirm I saw none by the pool or bar area this week or any whilst Scuba diving either! lol
I take delivery of my Spyder RT-S in December
I have moved from Motorcycles Last one being BMW K100LT – 1991 MODEL engine size 998cc – Owned since 1997 Sold last week
I have been disabled due to Poilo aged 22 months old – Left me unable to use my left leg
I have been riding Motorcycles since 1976 – First Honda’s then on to BMW’s
Now in my mid 50′s the BMW was getting to heavy to hold up and I did not tend to use it much in the winter months – being only able to put just my right leg down it was becomming a confidence issue – I accident could be 1 accident to many
My first motorcycles were adapted for me to use a hand change with a metal rod connected to the Left hand side Gear leaver – I woud use my left hand to operate the clutch leaver and use my right hand to push/pull the leaver to change gear
In all the years the only accident i had – was a slow speed spill when my right leg sliipped on diesiel at a M/way junction
About 5 yrs ago I fitted a Klicktronic push button Electronic Gear change systerm which was easy and gave me greater control
Having decided to look around I was thinking of getting the K100LT converted to a Trike or buy a motorcycle – Goldwing/Harley Davidson already converted into a Trike
I contacted several Trike builders and was quoted from £7,000 up to £14,000 for the conversion this did include the fitting of a reverse gear
I brought a copy of TRIKE magazine Summer copy and in it was an item on the CAN-AM Spyder RS – i was not sure this was for me due to the y layout and the sports type seating – So i just carried out looking at so called normal Trikes
Just over a month ago a friend of mine told me she had test ridden a Can-Am Spyder RT the Semi -Automatic one and the more i heard about it and the controls ect the more I became interested in it
I looked it up on the WWW and came across the Spyder Riders Uk website
I noticed BLUE lived in Willtshire and as I live in Berkshire next to Wiltshire I e mailed him to ask if he was in the area or if I could travel to meet him just to have a look at a Spyder to see if it was for me
He replied immediately and a couple of weeks later we met at the Toys R US car park in Swindon – He had the RS but it was the Semi Automatic one – BLUE allowed me to have a go and i did find it difficult to steer – All those years on a motorcycle
I was not sure the RS was for me but BLUE had contacted AdrenalinATV who contacted me and said they had a Spyder RT-S to test ride if I wanted to
I arranged with Andrew of AdrenalinATV to visit and a couple of weeks ago travellled to them – I did the Safety course and took the RT -S for a test drive
That was it – it was just what i needed – still able to ride in the open air – hand operated Gear changing – and no longer having to hold up all that weighjt up
I have done a deal with AdrenalinATV and the rest will be history
The only downside is the cost of insurance – I have been quoted £556 Fully comp from Bikesure – This is with over 9 yrs no claims discount – in fact no accidents, convictons in over 34 yrs – My BWM was only £150 and the only safety feature that had was ABS the Spyder has more safety features
I did also try The Bike Insurer but they appear to use the same insurance services
Adrian Fllux
Perhaps as more Spyders are purchased the Cost will hopefully come down
My thanks to to BLUE, JEFF and All the other Spyder Members who have submitted information on the Spyders Riders UK Website this has been and will continue to be invaluable information and support to new Spyder riders – Hope to meet many of you in the coming months and Years as I get out and about on my Spyder RT-S
Sorry for the long blog – But this is a great website and I hope we can keep it going

Hey Eddie,
Nice to see you on board,
I bet you’re like a kid at Christmas waiting on this delivery!
No doubt we’ll catch up again sometime in the future,
We’re planning a Spyder get together ride out next year so I hope you’ll be up for joining us?
Cheers
Blue
Please notify me of any events in 2011
I live in Jersey and would love to join up with any event.
I have a SPYDER RT. Blue with audio pack.
Hi Jeff,
I have a 2010 SPYDER se5 RT. [blue]. Complete with audiopack. Have just located your site. Would be very interested, in any gatherings etc in the uk.
I live in Jersey. At the moment there are only four can-am Spyders in the Island. I have the only RT
Warmest regards, Gary
Hi Gary
Sorry for the delay with this reply, as you will have noticed the site is about to close due to lack of sponsorship, I will try to leave the blog section running so that owners can keep in touch about rides out and meetings, why don’t you try to get some owners over to Jersey for a gathering, that would be quite a sight on the island.
All the best n ride safe.
Best regards Jeff
If you like I will post your email as a blog might get things going. Let me know.
A trip to Jersey next year sounds a great idea – I’m up for it.!
Hi Gary
We’re hoping to organise a ride out at some point in the New Year which i’ve been collating so will let you know about that.
On a seperate note there might be something else Spyder community orientated in 2011 and I’m looking for feedback on potential interest especially from people like yourself, Lou & David etc that would have to travel to attend.
Any thoughts on coming to the mainland for an event?
Cheers
Blue
Hi, Blue. Very interested in any event in the uk Also Europe.
There is a ferry from Jersey to uk every day.
Or some of the SPYDER members may consider coming over to Jersey. Sean has already stated his interest.
Please keep me posted.
Regards, Gary
Hi Gary
No worries, I’ll keep you posted
cheers
Hi Blue. As far as I`aam concerned, any event will be good for all SPYDER riders.
Generally Europe has better roads. But the cost of getting over may deter people from travelling.
But for those who may wish to travel. North France has some excellent roads approaching Mont St. Michel. Always a gathering of bikes in that area.
ps. Harley Davison have a gathering in Jersey every two years.
Keep me posted. Gary.
Hi Jeff,
If the site is closing, apart from the blog section, has nobody expressed an interest in establishing a free forum? I know that Spydertalk.com is long-standing in the U.S and has a small section for European Ryders, but a UK specific forum might get more usage now that more owners are cropping up?
It’s just a thought. Feel free to shoot me down in flames if this has already been discussed and dismissed! LOL
Lou
Hi Lou,
Great that you have received your Spyder but a shame that you never had it during the summer. I am on my second one and think that they are great. All in all, I have about 9,500 miles under my belt and jump at the chance when the weather is dry. Have an odd ride-out with another bloke from Cumbernauld now and again when our timetables are suitable.
As for the forums, the interest could be a lot better but I think that eveybody is slightly guilty of not contributing enough. I certainly hold my hand up too…….C’est La Vie!!!!! due to everybody having to earn a coin. Anytime you and your partner fancy going out for a blast then just give me a shout and will try and organise John to make it as well. Apart from the big meet-up at Ansty Hall last year I have have only been in a cluster of 4 at one time. Three would therefore be good and I will see if Glen or one of the other guys would try and make it as well to add even more.
All the best with your new toy and hope to meet up in the near future whenever suitable.
Cheers David……
Hi David & Lou
As you two were chatting about the Spyder community and ride out clusters etc I was wondering how far you guys would travel should a larger event be staged?
I’ve been working on something a little more involved than a small scale cluster meet for 2011 and am interested in gathering feedback with regards to potential interest.
Cheers
Blue
Free UK-focused forum would be great – plenty of examples to follow.
Ian
Hi Blue
I would like to have a gathering as well depending on distances to be covered.
I tried for ages to get somthing going over on the european bit of Spyder talk, without much luck. However I know of another Ryder near to me that looks on here but as yet doesnt feel inclined to join in ! strange I know but I have ridden with him a few times, so all is not lost.
Ride safe, (but hard)
jp
Hi Jp
It’s amazing how many riders are actually out there but not making themselves known!
Obviously it’s not mandatory thing to be social with other riders etc however it’s good to have some kind of social link.
It’s great to see there has been more interest recently on the site with more names appearing on the posts. It’d be a shame for the site to die a death.
What part of the country are you from?
Hi Blue,
Personally I would be prepared to travel across Europe for up to 10 days as long as I could take the time off in holidays from work. Obviously it would need to be in the late spring oer in the summer. I bide in central scotland but if I was off for the weekend I would not hesitate to travel a few hundred miles over the border. Drop me a line with more info about your wee plan.
Yours etc.
David……..
Hi David
You won’t need a passport or any Euros for what i’m toying with at the moment,
I will keep you posted as things develop.
Many thanks for your feedback
Cheers
Blue
Hi Everyone, There is the Bike show at the NEC Birmingham this next weekend, I am going with a biker friend on the Monday, I understand that there is a stand for the Can Am Spyder there also there should be stands offering biker holidays in the UK and France. I would be interested in touring France. My only problem is I am 200 miles from the south coast. However I would like to ride out with other Spyder owners. Acouple of weeks ago I met up with 3 spyder riders in the Whitchurch area.
Thats all for now Regards to all Taff
Hi Taff,
Any trip to France would be good. Hope to here of any developments. Regards, Gary. In jersey.
Hi Blue, I am on the Herts and Essex border (near to Stansted Airport). Do a good number of rally’s in the warmer months, mainly in the East Anglia region. So far I have not been on to the continent riding. I have a problem with a leg which does not work properly and riding more than about 100 miles is all I can manage these days without a stop and a stretch, plus being old is not a help. Wont say how old but born in the last war. !!!!! But, still like to get my leg over the saddle. Not keen on this snow though,or the salt and grit on the roads, so I have put Spydie to bed for a little while.
Take care, ride hard.
jp
Hi Jp
I know what you mean I rode out last night with my wingman and it was 1-2 degrees so the windchill was fierce, It was like that scene from Dumber and Dumber when they travel through that mountain range and freeze themselves to the bike!
With regards to events etc I’m thinking UK based so no need to worry about journeys that are too long.
I’ll keep you posted.
Cheers
Blue
Ps: Is there any other way to ride!!
Drop me a line??
Ian
Hi neighbour!!
F.A.O. Blue
Re your enquiry about travelling for a larger Spyder event – I would be prepared to travel anywhere in the UK, but this would be dependant on when it was and if both hubby and I could get time off work.
Will wait with baited breath to see what you’re planning
Lou
Thanks for feed back Lou,
I’ll keep you posted
Cheers

Hi Blue,
It has just crossed my mind that the club “Trikes R Us” Hold their rally at Littleport in Cambridgeshire. This year it was held on the last weekend in May. Dozens of trikes from all over, but only one Spyder, ME, camping over the weekend. Quite a good small rally.
jp
hi jp,
i’m up for that (if in the country). will you keep me informed nearer the day?
cheers,
sean

I was at the N.E.C. Bike Show on Monday and found lots of holidays and Bike tours in France Spain and Ger many they meet you at the Port and take you to hotels and Bike tours from 3 days to 7 days using the drop off system and convoy with a commercial carring all your kit, bread and breakfast or include dinner if required. Just a thought. Regards to all Taff
Hi Taff,
I’ve seen these types of tours advertised in magazines etc, and think they sound great for first-time European riders. They take the hassle of it all – taking you on your route ( usually tailored to where you fancy going ), organise accomodation and food. They’ll know the area so can take you to the best places for sight-seeing while still having an idea of how long it’ll take to get to the next point of call. It’s saves all the worry of getting lost, running out of time etc etc, plus you have someone riding in front of you so that you never forget which side of the road you’re supposed to be on.
Brilliant idea and not that expensive – the one I looked at was £259pp for three nights including hotel accomodation, and half-board, taking you round Normandy in France.
Lou

Good morning to you Blue.
Yes there is a mrs Jim, Karen is the 1 that keeps me informed of things on here, as she’s always on it. I can’t get the damn thing for 2 mins..lol.
hiya guys
i have just done a quick insurance check for when i get my rts and the premium was in the £1200 pound mark is there any one else we can insure with
and i have been reading all the threads (taken some time)
do you get and mayjor issues with the trikes so on so forth and is there any thing i should know before i buy it and what is the best dealer to go to i was at the cam an stall in sunday at the n-e-c bike show and just fell in love with the bikes
cheers guys
Hi Tim
That’s one hell of a premium!!
I can’t say I’ve heard of one that high before so I’m guessing it’s either age or previous claims related to be twice as much as the average riders premium?
The usual suspects are posted on here somewhere with regards to insurance as it’s been a bone of contention for some time with riders..your quote takes the biscuit though for sure!!
Dealer wise it has to be Adenalin ATV. I would imagine you saw them at the show as they were there, Give Andrew a buzz 01675471459.
There’s not much they don’t know about the Spyders, they’re one of the top dealers in the uk.
cheers
Blue
Hi
We have the RT-S in as a demo machine and would be more than happy for you to come and demo. We are based in the Midlands and are the largest Can-Am Spyder dealer. Please give us a call on 01212 707057.
Thanks Andrew
Hi Tim, Regarding the insurance prob., we all have had that.
First did you tell them what you thought your mileage might be, suggest you say 3,000 miles then when or if your reach that all you need to do is phone them and increase the mileage to say 5000. You have not said which insurance co. quoted you.
Suggest you try MCE on 08700101125 or Bike Sure on 08448885533
My ccost was £395 then when I rteach that I increased that to 5000 miles and only then paid the difference for the remaining months to renewal for £65. So when it comes up for renewal I will revert to 3000 miles again
PS I am a retired insurance inspector.
Tim
I agree ref the Insurance – I have previously posted the following : -
The only downside is the cost of insurance – I have been quoted £556 Fully comp from Bikesure – This is with over 9 yrs no claims discount – in fact no accidents, convictons in over 34 yrs – My BWM was only £150 and the only safety feature that had was ABS the Spyder has more safety features
I did also try The Bike Insurer but they appear to use the same insurance services
Adrian Fllux
It must be the potential Replacement cost of the Spyders models that makes the cost so high
As we start to get this Club/Group organised perhaps Insurance Companies will be more intrested if they know they may get a large number of renewals of Insurance Policies
With ref to the comments from Blue ref – Dealer wise it has to be Adenalin ATV. I would imagine you saw them at the show as they were there, Give Andrew a buzz 01675471459.
I also had advice from Blue and I am happy that I followed it – See my earlier blog
I still have not got my Spyder RT-S – I was due to collect it last week but the severe
weather made this impossible – Arrangements are being made for me to get it this weekend – No doubt I will mange to get a quick ride out during the break in the weather
Tim if you think the Spyder is for you Go for it !
Eddie Sheppard
I paid £350.00 for my premium. The SPYDER RT was new.
The company is named Island Insurance. Also it was the first time I had dealt with the company.
hi guys thanks for replys it was bike sure that gave me the quote and the people i see and nec was a company from portsmoth i cant wait to get this and yh a poss high prem because of age 23 lol but still you only live once so live to the max
…hold the phone a sub 30 something rider!!!? (of course by sub 30 something I mean sub 50 however on this occasion I thought I’d spread the ageism a bit ha) ..things are getting interesting out there LOL
Keep us all posted on your progress Tim
Cheers
Blue
I ended up paying £513 insurance for my 2010 RS SE5 – quotes ranged from £513 to £1,100, using the 3 years NCB that I swapped from my bike, expected annual mileage of 5,000, and 38 years-old with a 21-year-old drving licence and a 4-year-old bike licence, no claims ever, living in a low-risk postcode in Scotland, and a low-risk job of Accountant.
Having the Spyder in a locked, brick-built garage overnight helped too.
But I still think the money that these companies are charging is horrendous. They have little competition so can charge what they like. Scandelous!!!!!! LOL
23 ?????? Woohoo, I’m not the youngest anymore!!!! LOL
Sorry Lou had you beat by a few years on that already!! being a gentleman and all that I hadn’t mention it, pmsl
23 has me well beat though that’s for sure, fair play to him if he buys one.
Hi All you spyder ryders,
Just bought my 3rd Spyder. Hopefully, weather permitting, I will pick it up next week.
hey guys its gunna be a deffo gunna be ordering it in jan the rts version so shall be good fun hope u guys are having fun on urs
Nice one Tim fair play to you,
Watch out for the ride out we’re hoping to do in 2011… and potentially something else i’m working on which might.. if I can pull it off be pretty uniquel!
There may be developments I can share with everyone in the next week or two,
Cheers
Blue
Hmmm, this sounds interesting.
Looking forward to reading what you’ve come up with.
The RT is the way forward. Excellent vehicle and fun to be on.
Mine is an RT, but will soon look like a RTS. Many extras on order.
You guys are talking about the youngest, who is the oldest, I am gone 77 yrs anyone older than that lol
Ha you really are father time Taff, I hope i’m still living the dream at 77!!
Hi to you all.
I’m just watching the weather forecast, and wishing it was possible to add ski tracks to the spyder…all year riding.
Wishing you all A Merry Christmas an A Happy New Year.
Looking forward to a mass Spyder meet and ride out.
Stay safe.
It is possible … sort of !!!! LOL get an Autosock for the rear tyre, and fix some shortened skis to the two front wheels! LOL
I doubt steering would be very precise, but it might be an interesting experience !!!!! LOL
Hi boys and girls,
Insurance.
While at a rally (the condom) I got talking to a guy from Allstyles Insurance brokers.
phone 01206 821330. the guys name, Asa Pryke ( honestly) was a realy nice guy and took my details to phone me back with a quote for the Spyder when he was back in the office. True to his word he did and the quote was £350 ish fully comp they also do a breakdown scheme. I told him I would post his details on here but like a fool I could not find his details again, till now.
I dont know if this will be of any use to anyone but it might be worth a phone call. By the way I have no connections with this company, so no axe to grind.
If anyone calls can you let the rest of us know how you got on, whether pos or neg for future reference.
Cheers all
john
Hello. Am beginning to find my way around Spyderworld, having become the owner of a (black) 2008 GS RE5 about a month ago. Age 63, live in North Herts. and just by the by have early Parkinson’s but am keen to keep going and enjoy meeting/riding. Also have a “conventional” trike – converted 1993 Suzuki VS800 Intruder, aka Jezebel. Anyone else in my area? (Come finer weather)
Ian
Hi Ian
I hail from the Bishops Stortford area. Welcome aboard. I’m also over 60 but only suffer from bad memory, now what was I saying, oh yes, not keen on the winter riding scene. I also have a VW trike but since having the Spyder the past two and a half years I must confess that it has not been on the road. Keep looking on here and dont treat the Spyder with ‘kid gloves’. She will love to rev. unlike a lot of big twins.
Take care
john.
Hi John. Thanks for quick reply. Hope to meet sometime post-Ice Age.
Ian
All the very best to all SPYDERIDERS UK. Have great xmas and a healthy new year.
Hoping to meet some of you in 2011.
Warmest regards Gary, Jersey.
Heh heh – “Warmest” regards?? Anything above freezing would suit .
Happy festivities to you and all.
merry xmas and a happy new to every one, looking forward to a meet up and ryde out in the new year.
ian
Hi folks
I got my Ambassador Pack through the post today …. ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Is this just so BRP can get some free advertising and marketing out of us ?????
Anybody going to be buying a Spyder soon who wants 7,500 Euros worth of vouchers to spend on Clothing, Accessories & Parts ??????
oh and btw Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all your SpyderRyders.
All the best for 2011.
May the weather be bright and beautiful.
Lou
x
Sounds like a good old-fashioned cynical advertising gambit. From my so far limited reading of others experiences, BRP isn’t exactly coming over as a body that respects and cares about its customers – maximum profit for minimum outlay seems to be the company ethic.
Dont get me going on the subject!!!!! its Christmas
All the best to you Spyder Owners out their, Hope you have a Merry Xmas and Safe New Year.
As you can tell I haven’t scraped the site and will try to do more to it next year.
Jeff
Hi Jeff
Will try and catch up with you in the New year about the site.
Can you keep us posted on your plans moving forward with it?
I’m teetering on the edge of success with this plan i’ve been working on so
I hope to be able to share the details early in the New Year with everyone.
Fingers crossed.
Have a good one everyone
Blue
Hi Blue
No plans really, just thought I’d try to keep it going as their seems to be more interest from you guys, I have some photo’s from owners and as more stuff comes in Ill try to keep on top of it.
BRP didn’t send me an RT for Christmas, Hey oh.
Happy New Years.
Jeff
£eep the “pilot light” going and let’s see if things will fire up in the NewYear.
Meantime, why not send the “ambassador” material back to BRP with festive greetings and the observation that in the real world an ambassador a) has a country to represent which b) supports its citizens, and c) maybe they’d like to consider that evidently novel concept as a “passport” to the future?? Oh, and maybe they’d like to come out into the light and try a product and service satisfaction survey if they have the guts?? Just a thought.
Jesus Pict careful you don’t fall off of that soap box! ha
Would it help to explain if I mentioned that my mother is staying over Christmas??
My deepest sympathies!
Mine didn’t even get an invite as the Royal mail doesn’t deliver to Hell! lol
I still marvel at BRP’s blithely issuing the packs on a presumption.
I’m thinking of turning my alias to “Purple”
What about RAGE sounds more dangerous pmsl.
YAY!
I’m already labouring under “It’ll never get better if you Pict”…
eh?
Some other time. Meanwhile, on with the mince pies and mulled wine….. Cheers, y’all
For some reason, my daughter gave me this as a present:

Hi anybody in admin – has my registration been dropped? Can’t seem to logon or access new comments.
Best wishes to all Spyder Ryders, have a Happy New Year and lets cover lots of safe miles in 2011
Looking forward to catching up with you throughout the year.
Happy New Year!! Is anybody prpared to meet up, even just for a chat over a cuppa, while the mild weather continues? I’m in the Stevenage area of North Herts and keen to get back on the road after the recent snow and ice. Pretty flexible on time and place.
Morning Pict
You’re too far away to hook up with PG and me.
The roads around here are like a skid pad. I had little to no traction the other day whilst out.
I washed my ride down yesterday to clear the salt away and stuck her back on the optimiser.
See what the weather brings now I guess
cheers
blue
Wish i could meet for a ride, but the bike is away in a shop just getting the adaption I needed on it painted up. Will give ya a shout when it’s done (although I’m away most of Jan, so will be a while). Best wishes
Thanks for the quick reply Blue – nice to have company. A bit drizzly here, that’s all, so will be off for a spin later.
It’s ok here weather wise except for the slick tarmac,
Got to take a trip to Adenalin soon for a service and the steering upgrade so that should be an interesting trip.
PG is will also be joining me as he’s due a pit stop too.
Speaking of traction, my rear tyre is getting lowish on tread (down to the first bars) so will replacce soon. Any experience of tyres other than BRP stock? Toyo Proxes T1R seem to give good grip and wear?
I was told just use it until it was worn right down and ignore the wear bars are they’re misleading? still no further educated on it.
I’ll just use stock tyres as it’s only road work we do at the end of the day, it’d be different if it were a race application or something specalist.
It’s not worth worrying about in my opinion as the stock ones do the job well enough
Toyos are said to give better wet grip. Maybe a bit cheaper too?
Had the steering motor replaced a few days ago. Feels different – lighter and more inclined to wander. Be interested in your views
Yeah I’ve felt a difference on occasion when something changes itself and it feels almost too light. Feels like you want to dampen it down a bit when it happens. Just takes a bit of getting use to again.
Anybody have Skype installed btw? Im at “iansylv” if anybody has a mind to call. Usually logged on and not far away.
I have SKYPE. Just type my name Gary Le Brocq. Jersey. UK.
How’s everyone doing re. road salt? Any crorosion issues?
Sooner we get back to a forum structure the happier I’ll be btw – easier to keep threads separate.
Not being a nerdy IT type in any anyway shape or form I had wondered about that having seen a few other forum set ups.
I think it’s just habitual on here now however if Jeff re-models everything this year it’d be good and encourange more users. It’d certainly be easier to keep things in order.
If things pick up maybe Jeff will keep us all going on here so we must support it.
I’m no IT nerd either – just keen to see things happen like elsewhere I’ve been.
…..also easier to keep records and contacts etc. Would like to discuss – hence Skype chat would bee a good start?
Too nerdy for me dude as I have some paint I need to watch dry!!
I’m a rider through and through, give me a fast bit of road and some free time and i’m there.
I actively encourange and enjoy the community side of things although don’t go much on iddle chit chat without foundation. I think this year could be a new begining for us uk riders so it’s really good the community is coming more to life.
Absolutely with you
…so what do we do about it, eh?/
Ah well that’s something i’ve been working pretty hard on for a while.
I still can’t divulge the details yet just incase the last piece of the puzzle doesn’t fall into place..soon though.
With regards to the site we just need to encourange more riders to come out of the woodwork and join in.
As PG said to me it’s a hobbie not a lifestyle so if people want to join in they will.
Most importantly, can we hear from Jeff so we can sort out things to do. Skype ain’t nerdy – it’s a great communication tool for getting things done quickly and cheaply or even free. By “chat” I meant constructive discussion not hot air.
we have to remember J
we have to remember Jeff keeps this running out of goodwill as he no longer rides so he needs all the help he can get i’d imagine. He’d appreciate help i’m sure.
Sounds to me like a kindred spirit. Can I make an appeal to get together and not have rabbits pulled out of hats?
I’m talking about forum format, content etc. Based on a ppbrb model like most rider / owner groups use?
see previous posts,
There’s a list for a ride out get together this year sometime when we can all make it.
Nothing structured just a ride and meet up somewhere. No rabbits
Didn’t know that J doesn’t ride anymore – sad. I may be in the same boat before too long so time is precious.
Woohoo – drizzle is off!
Get suited and booted and hit the black top.
Laters
I’m gone.
Back again a bit damp (Rain came on again) but happy. Note to self – check out best price on MRA Vario screen.
While I’m here, does anybody know, even roughly, how maany Spyders there are in the UK? I keep being asked.
Hiya, Well guys and gals, as I have said before here and on other sites, I tried to get things going in june 08 when I took delivery of Spydie, but not much enthusiasm from readers. I have met several others who have looked on here but not joined in, beats me how we get them going!
Been trying to find out the numbers of Spyders sold in the UK but no dealer that I’ve spoken to will commit to any numbers, even a rough number would be good I feel.
The “Trikefest” rally is being held on the weekend of 27th May ’11 at the Littleport Leisure Centre,Cambridgeshire, Mainly for trikes with a good assortment attending, some from the continent as well, usually a pretty good do.
As for riding in the wet, is it just me or do we all have trouble with wheelspin and getting the power down at low speed, and why does the bl***y traction control keep kicking in and spoiling the fun?
Still haven’t had my steering unit changed, think Ill wait a bit.
Anyone try to ride in the snow? Me, well I’m getting on a bit and my reactions are not those of an 18 year old so I chickened it.
I have fitted a Givi Top Box to the rear sport carrier. I took off the hinge plate and cut a plywood shape to fit in the rack, a T shaped bar bolted to the frame through the mounting that holds the rack in place and and a universal givi mounting plate bolted to the plywood. Solid as a rock, and it acts as a backrest for a pillion as well.
Happy riding to you all and more importantly, ride safe.
John
Good posting, John – a basis for a fresh start on the forum. That could also include a map etc. to begin to answer the question of numbers.
This week’s weather looks good, so any chance of meeting up? (domestic duties and partners permitting!)
Sorry – not responded to the techie bits, so here goes:
1) I’m still cautious about controlling the power (or more especially, the brakes) so haven’t hit the traction limit yet. Likewise, not ridden in snow – especially since Mark at GS JetTech said the traction is crap – rear tyre spin panics the traction control = nogo.
2) Might steal a template for the Givi plate mounting
3) Have had the stupidly small brake pedal extended so I don’t have to fish around for it with my toe – has been a major concern as Parkinson’s affects my right leg. Still debating whether to spend silly money on a hand lever addition.
4) Another thought is to install a hydraulic lock on the (front?) brake syatem, to support the handbrake. What crass idiot designed the SE5 with just a single stretchy cabled rear parking brake and no difflock? A
Oops – can somebody delete this posting please – doubled up ‘cos my hand’s a bit shaky this morning.
Hiya Pict, good to see that I’m not the only one reading on here. As for riding at the moment, well I have a gammy leg which hates the cold so I have to wait till it warms up a bit more, frustrating to say the least, but cant do much about it.
However, keep posting bits and pieces and we may keep the site going.
Take care
john
Hi John. Cold affects me too (right arm, hand and leg) but I’ve been going stir-crazy so I took Boris (Homage to The Who, of course) out and buzzed around the neighborhood for a couple of hours. Must seal that leaky exhaust joint one of these days – maybe
Hey Pict
Should I add you to the group list interested in meeting up for a ride out this year?
Definitely, if you’re prepared to accept that I’m no tearaway.
Ha it’s not a condition! I’ll stick you on.
Any idea which part of the country? Roughly.
No, it’s likely to be central, we’ve had a few suggestions like the Ace cafe in London, another bikers haunt in Wales, and so on. It’s very much a see what happens venue at this point. Trouble is we’re all so spread out for just a basic rideout. I’m sure more ideas will get posted during the winter months.

Oh dear – I make that 13….
I’d like tto build/speed up communication, inc. getting to know where we all are. Trouble is, how to manage security given that this is an open blog site and not a place I want to broadcast personal info. Hence my suggestion af a skype-based descussion cos it would be verbal so safer Any other views?
Tricky one at the moment,
Everyone talks regionally and non specfic about location so no unexpected visitors drop by to collect the bikes!
E-mail and text is best. Works for Sean and me ok.
Agreed, but who’s going to volunteer their contact info here?
Is anybody able to contact Jeff and invite him back to the table before things go much further??
Jeff keeps an eye and always catches up sooner or later.
His e-mail is about on one of the pages.
He’s still willing to keep us going fair play although it must be a tough one as he’s not riding/owning at the moment
The “Trikes R Us” rally could well be a good point for a get together at the end of May. Good flat site, loads of room for camping , leisure centre for those not keen on burgers etc. (Me). Plenty of beer and live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. Up till now it also has free tea and coffee all the time. I’m going for sure. If you Google up ‘trikesrus’ you can see the latest info.
Imagine what a do it would be if we could muster a whole web ? of spyders !!!!!!

Cambridgeshire, Just took a peek
Suits me OK. Others, though?
I’m defo up for that, just round the corner for me……
(Hi Sean!)
Looks a little rustic although good enough for a meet up for a day.
Long journey from my neck of the woods over 3hrs according to the AA.
Ferry booked. Bought entrance tickets. So hope to meet you at the venue.
Trikes R us
Stop here and stretch your legs?
Thanks for the offer although I ride that far for a service so I’m well conditioned for it,
I often rideout with PG for hours with no particular destination. It’d make a change to have somewhere to go,
Hi folks,
Hope you all had a merry Christmas and an even merrier New Year
To Spyderrider (John) – I’m very interested in seeing the template for the custom-made top-box plate that you made. Any chance of a couple of photos and perhaps a wee instruction sheet please? My hubby is very good at this sort of thing, but we’d not considered trying to make something ourselves until now. If you could email something to me I’d be very grateful
lou_hewitt@hotmail.co.uk.
With regards to the comments about having a more forum-style set-up, I think this would encourage people to join in more. A forum is much easier to peruse. A friend of mine who has already set up his own bike forum may be willing to help if we/Jeff wanted to start one ??????????
I’m also very interested to see what Blue is working on with regards to meets/events etc. Here’s hoping it all falls into place …. whatever it is

Hi Lou n Happy New Year to you all.
I’m happy to give my support to a UK Spyder forum, but have no idea how to go about this, so please go ahead.
If you need the website as a platform fine, as Blu said I catch up eventually.
In the near future I will try to get BRP to comment on all the issues you all raise, but don’t hold your breath. It would be nice if when you arrange your get together that they give some support, maybe a tea or coffee or perhaps a dealer might offer something!!!!
Let me have picture’s of modification’s done or planned and I’ll post, jpeg please.
Regards Jeff
Hi Lou
I tried posting some photos of the plate but my camera refuses to talk to my computer . I have a friend who may be able to help me out as Im obviously doing something wrong somewhere.
However if you have the sportrack fitted now then the conversion is fairly simple. Leave it with me and I’ll have another go when all is sorted out this end
john
Could maybe pop over and help if you’re stuck
Thanks John, If I can get a large top-box to fir on the rack, it’ll save me a fortune having to buy the pannier kit!
Lou
One of the best models for an owners’ forum that I’ve belonged to iis the Yamaha TDM owners one (www.carpe-tdm.net) – really friendly, very active and full of technical support, meeting arrangements (UK and Europe), photos, members’ map and all kinds of stuff. The structure works well, like others using the same engine. I’m sure others can be suggested for ideas about progressing a Spyder-based forum.
Jeff managed to post my picture on the Gallery – Spyder RT – S
Was due to pick it up on 4th Dec from Adrenaline ATV but the weather was too severe Snow and Ice
Was able to collect it on the 11th and rode it back the 100miles to Reading
Only issues was Roundabout all those years leaning on a motorcycle
Since getting the Spyder the weather got worse and was not able to ride during Dec
Not enough experience yet to try riding on slippery roads
Managed a quick run out – Locally just to get some pratice in
Hopefully the weather will get better and this combined with my time off from work
will allow me to get out more – Being disabled I do find the cold can affect me but have noticed how the heat comes off the spyder so maybe it will help me
As a matter of interest W
Sorry I must have hit the post comment before I could add :-
As a matter of interest – When I Purchased my Spyder I wanted to get a private
registration Number plate – I have used my Initials along with 999 (Being in the Fire
Service) in the past
This time I wanted to be different and looked on the DVLC Website and came up
with and now have on my Spyder RT – S the following Registration
RT10 SPY – How cool is that !
If anyone is interested there are alot of **** SPY registrations available from the DVLC
Good to see the Blog is getting very active – 2011 The year of the SPYDER

Hey Eddie good to hear from you!
I’ve seen similar plates but i’m still sitting on the fence whether I put one of my blue plates on or opt for something different this time. I’ve seen some nice RED ones.
The reg plate can be a bit of a plod magnet if it’s messed with too much and couple that with a summer time smoked visor i’m kinda asking for a tug I guess!
PS: posting your full reg might not be a good idea just incase some idiot tries to pinch your bike! Nice plate though.
cheers

You’ve just got to learn how to steer the beast now….watch out for those stationary flower beds in car parks eh Eddie Knight!!
I hope you’re pleased with it and don’t miss the BMW too much.

Hello anybody?
Oh well. I’ll post anyway.
It may be right that we’re too few and scattered to have other than local meets, or accept that the day’s ride to/from a “central” veenue becomes the riding objective so we just socialse when we get there, rather the have a collective rideout. On that ticket, one venue I can suggest is Foxton Locks ( http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Foxton+Locks+Inn,+Market+Harborough&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=9.219336,27.202148&ie=UTF8&hq=Foxton+Locks+Inn,&hnear=Market+Harborough,+Leicestershire,+United+Kingdom&z=12 ), which is photogenic, historically interesting, has good parking and places to eat, and accessible from a reasonable area.
To get things going, I may just keep an eye on the weather and post a date for some place like that so anybody can come along if they want. Depends on people keeping tabs on this blog, though, and the hit rate so far is lower than I’m used to.
I’ve been meaning to post a couple of tips for ages now however kept on forgetting.
For those interested-
For excellent bike to bike/bike to pillion comms I can highly recommend the Scala rider G4 Powerset Bluetooth set by Cardo.
This kit really does everything they claim it does.
It works superbly in conjunction with mobile phones,mp3 etc etc as well as brilliant VOX operated rider to rider comms.
No cables, low profile, looks good and the mobile phone connection is so good you’d never know you’re screaming up the motorway in a gale.
It sounds like you’re in the next room and that’s no exaggeration, you really couldn’t ask for more.
Alarming your Spyder for next to nothing-
I recently dug out my old Linwood Wasp steering wheel alarm.
This I found clamped around the thinness part of my handle bar grip on the throttle.
As the alarm is motion sensitive it activates if the bike is being moved and would stop the throttle being used safely or quietly, it also offers a very obvious visual deterrent.
Being a clamp style attachment secured at the thin end of the grip it also means that it can’t be removed by slipping it over the grips.
The unit in confined spaces such as a garage is deafening and on the street is so loud people can’t fail to take notice.
I saw one online for a fiver earlier and there are newer versions that will probably do the same job. So simple cheap and effective especially when it comes to deterring browsing fiddlers whilst parked up!
Thanks Blue. Good news about the Scala as I’ve just been given one which I’ve yet to install and sort out the Bluetooth links to phone and satnav Time I got up to date.
Hi Everyone, Well Jim picked up his new pearly white bike today. Last seen about 6hrs ago …..yes, he’s still playing and admiring. Its already had its 1st shampoo and polish.
Radio setting for Spyders RT with audio pack
This may be if interest of owners with RT – S and others with the BRP audio pack
installed
On my RT -S – I could not get the radio to tune to some of the FM Radio Stations
when tuning the system seemed to skip pass some of them – One of them being my Local FM Station
I found out my Radio has selected Regions – and it had Region A Selected –
This is for the US (and Canada?), and selects the odd numbered frequncies.
Region “B” is Europe (and the UK?) and selects the even numbered frequencies.
If you need to change yours this is what I did
Went into the Preference screen and changed Region from A to B – tried to retune the Radio but kept getting the same frequencies – Left the B Region selected and came out of the preference screen and switched off the ignition
When I switched the ignition back on and went into the Radio set up my previous stored Radio Channels had been cleared
I therefore went back into the tuning sceen and found I could now find the normal radio channels available in the UK these are now stored and I am well pleased with the results
I wonder what happens if other regions are selected – it would be nice if BRP could explain this in the Owners manual

HeyTaff did you find the details you were looking for the other day?
Just been talking to a mate of mine down in Castlegregory, Co. Kerry, who’s just spotted a yellow Spyder in that area.
we could do with a ‘was it you?’ section for spotted riders
Hey up Lads not very PC as Blu says, I have removed, with regard trip to Ireland the guy that bought mine is in Dublin, Although he doesn’t blog he is member, I’m sure you could hook up.
Keep it friendly Jeff
Hi Jeff. Can we get down to the business of reconstructing the forum asap, while the going is good? This blo-based posting and reply system is already heading for a muddle.
Sorry your frustrated with blog, if you can create forum you can count on my support, as I don’t know anything about the subject.
I never intended this as a chat room more as a place where owners could post comments and offer advise to other owners.
If I could just point out that we only have about 6 regular bloggers although I’m very pleased that we have so much more interest.
Good Luck Jeff
Hi Jeff.. Sorry if I offended unintentionally, when I was looking to get back to your good lead on setting up a UK forum. Blue and others ,as more senior members than me, what do you suggest and what’s ongoing? Can we discuss? Jeff as the keeper of contact info can you drop me an email to hook up?.
Hi pict
I think eventually the way forward will be a more forum/chat room type of set up. I use to use Quad heaven a while back which is a well run site and very social as the race/ride scene is massive…The trouble we have is numbers and interest at the moment.
As i’ve said before we’re a pretty exclusive club, too exclusive for our own good in some respects which is partly driven by financial and practical reasons.
From my observations on this site which Jeff kindly hosts we’re also made up of the more senior rider and a handful of younger ones which also brings challenges not to mention the odd joke that I can’t resist!!
With time and maybe some finances thrown into the mix we can develop something new however i’m not totally convinced that Spyder riders are that into chit chat online. This might change though if more visual media is accessible and more social events occur as people will start to develop friendships and things in common….apart from gammy legs and feeling the cold (couldn’t help myself again..sorry lol)
Moving forward I can tell you that i’ve been hinting at something pretty big on the horizon that I have been working really hard on since last August. This has been in conjunction with some other players in the industry who share the same enthusiasm. I still can’t reveal what it is yet however I can confirm that I came another step closer on Friday to making the project a reality. Trust me when I say i’d love to blab it all out and tell you all what’s cooking however for many reasons including failure I dare not.
You lot will be the first to know rest assured.
cheers
Blue
Hi Blue. I’m not one for idle chat either, so I look forward to the big event whenever.
Curious to see what you have cooking on the horizon!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep me informed.
Cheers David.
Hi Pict
No offence taken, I enjoy reading your post’s, I’m sure Blu thinks being a senior member is a giggle, as he is always going on about us more mature guy’s.
No such thing as seniority within this community, I don’t have any other members detail than whats listed, with their approval.
Can’t wait for Blu’s disclosure, announcement, whatever it maybe.
Regards Jeff
Hi Jeff
Yeah highly amusing play on words..love it
lol about the mature thing..I thought a rather tactful code for Help the aged….
Obviously said with a cheeky midlife tongue in cheek..clearly i’m Peter Pan and will never grow old!! ha
Sorry – by “seniority” I didn’t mean age! It was my impression of the hierarchy hereabouts.
Hi Pict
No it’s a level playing field, there’s no hierarchy just more out spoken types that’s all.
We were just having a bit of banter as we got what you meant.
Jeff was having a laugh about my tendency to slip the odd age related joke in here and there.
All good fun.
Cheers
Blue
Hi Blue,
Just wondering about your wee secret plan for later on in the year. Thought I might put forward a couple of questions as to where and more importantly WHEN you were thinking about. The main reason as I am sure some of the other interested riders as well need to know, is so we can book holidays in advance. I do realise that it will not happen until quite a bit later on in the year however the sooner we can get the ball rolling the better.
Hope that I aint putting any undue pressure on you but just as an example I am working in a large company with few numbers. Only 2 people are allowed holidays at the same time and already about 40% have booked up their alocated time for the full year.
As to the where question, are there any clues that you are prepared to give away and as to the timescale whether 2, 3,5, or 7 days etc.?
Any info at all would be greatly appreciated and it will be good to see if there are any others in the same position. I would hate to miss such an event due to lack of preparation on my part as it was great in 2009 to meet all the riders at Anstey Hall and there is obviously more owners and interest now.
Cheers David.
Time now to go out for my 3rd ride for 2011.
Hi David
I hear what you’re saying and have been working on all of those questions.
There have been significant developments in the last 2 weeks which have snowballed my plans considerably.
These developments do mean that it has delayed me in making any type of announcement or firming anything up.
Potentially all will become clear one way or the other in the next few weeks.
The main development is worth waiting for hence I have held back longer than anticipated. I know it’s murder as I’ve been fit to burst for months on this.
What I can tell you, which is fresh infomation, is that if my plans become reality what I have planned now along with new interest and planning partners will be the very first of its kind.
It will be UK based and it will have a very unique feature which to date will be a first for Spyder riders.
Who knows it’d be nice to think June would be a nice month to go for a ride,
I’d love to tell you more but as I said before for the fear of failure and other draw backs that can screw things up I dare not say more.
Now that there is serious interest from external sources my hands are tied until I get the feedback I need to choose a clear path.
Sorry to keep you hanging.
Cheers
Blue
Hi Blue,
Cheers for the quick response and I do understand why you are apprehensive at the moment until your ideas are more formalised. Looking forward to see what they are and by the sounds of things so are at least 13 others. I am sure all are very appreciative of your time and commitment and also to Jeff for starting it off in the first place. Will also be looking out to see if there are any others in a similar position to me as of the earlier post? i.e. earlier the better for booking time off.
Oh by the way…….3rd time out this year on the trike today around the Trossachs in Central Scotland.
Cheers mate and hope to hear from you soon.
David
Hi David no worries,
Sounds cold! Keep an eye on your emails for up dates!
cheers
Blue
Hi Blue,
I will do. Not cold with all the gear on and the roads are quieter.
cheers

anyone going to the trike day at the ace cafe on 6th march
Is this another anti-parking fees rideout?
Doh – just checked for myself. Will try to be there, esp. as I’m in NABD. Dilemma, though – whether to take Spyder or trike. Hmmmm.
Where in the uk is the cafe?
Just along from the bottom end of the M1.

I’ll probably be up for it.
If that cafe is in London the answer is no it’s 200 miles one way for me Taff

Crap – I’ve just posted in the wrong place again. Need a prroper forum QED
Re my earlier post ref the RT – S audio system, It would appear that after a period of time the Region sets back to A – Maybe a default setting
Although if you go back into the Preference screen and reselect region B the previously stored channels are still there
Perhaps BRP will have a software update for UK/European Owners So that Region B can be the default setting
Another issue is I purchased The Garmin Can-am intergrated GPS Navigation System
(Zumo 660) This comes with North Amercian mapping little use for the UK and Europe
I contacted Garmin UK to ask if it possible to get a map change the following is there answer :-
Dear Eddie Sheppard,
Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
Unfortunately it seems the device you have is an American unit and we do not offer any service to transfer map versions and you would unfortunately have to purchase a map version suitable mapping for your device. We only sell licenses for the mapping which we pay royalties on and do not produce it. I would suggest returning to your retailer with this issue if you are not happy. If you purchased this in Europe they should really supply you with European mapping. Thank you.
I will pass this on to my dealer to see if BRP will solve this one – With the new
Spyder RT – 5 Limiited coming in this year which has the GPS already fitted it will be intresting to see if it comes with European mapping

Age never bothered me, I will be 78 this next August, just a recycled teenager.
Am I the oldest in this club of Spyders I wonder and how young is the youngest.
Changed my RS last May to the RT and by October completed 3,400 miles only stopped bcause of the bad weather. not had so much fun since I was 17 when that 33 year old lady took advantage of me and furthered my education lol

Taff
That’s funny…damn those 33 year olds!!
I’ve heard there are some very young riders out there,
The young sucessful professional type with stacks of cash a Veyron or two gathering dust in the garage and nothing else to spend the money on and then the sponging lazy heir type who live off of Daddys dollar that have them too!
They are out there some where we just haven’t heard from them yet.

Subject: Issues with new Spyder RT -S
Sir
I have just taken ownership of a new Spyder RT – S
The reg is RT10 SPY
It was purchased from Adrenalin ATV (Excellent dealer) in Dec 2010
I have the following questions ??
Radio setting for Spyders RT with audio pack
On my RT -S – I could not get the radio to tune to some of the FM Radio Stations
when tuning the system seemed to skip pass some of them – One of them being my Local FM Station
I found out my Radio has selected Regions – and it had Region A Selected –
This is for the US (and Canada?), and selects the odd numbered frequncies.
Region “B” is Europe (and the UK?) and selects the even numbered frequencies.

UPDATE ON RADIO REGIONS
It would appear that after a period of time the Region sets back to A – Maybe a default setting
Although if you go back into the Preference screen and reselect region B the previously stored channels are still there
Perhaps BRP will have a software update for UK/European Owners So that Region B can be the default setting
Can you give any answers on how to keep Region B Selected
CAN-AM ROADSTER GPS NAVIGATION SYSTEM BY GARMIN
I purchased The Garmin Can-am intergrated GPS Navigation System
(Zumo 660) for my new Spyder RT -S But this comes with North Amercian mapping little use for the UK and Europe
I have taken consumer advice and the advice is – Yes, take it up with Spyder – they are the ones that sold you a satnav with the inappropriate mapping. It is, in the jargon, “not fit for purpose” – they should replace it with one with European mapping; they sold it for European use so that’s what it should be able to do.
With the new Spyder RT – 5 Limiited coming in this year which has the GPS already fitted it will be intresting to see if it comes with European mapping
Please can you help with these problems – I have to say I am happy with the Spyder RT -S and hope the back up service of BRP is as good

From BRP UK
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your email and your valued feedback of the Spyder RT-S.
The Radio Setting we advise customers to use in the UK is Region B, however some of the other symptoms you are describing do sound a bit strange? Can I suggest getting in contact with Adrenalin Atv so they can carry out a detailed inspection of the symptoms you have explained to me, this way we will be able to assist should BRP need to get involved with providing a suitable solution for you.
With regards to your Garmin GPS Unit, a separate CD (Part Number 710 001 806) should have been ordered at the time your Garmin was ordered, this CD would have contained European Maps and should have been loaded at the time of installation. Again I would advise contacting Adrenalin Atv so this can be resolved for you.
I hope this helps and please do not hesitate use my contact details for a reference when you speak to Adrenalin Atv.

SAFETY RECALL NOTICE, Re: SE5 Clutch Sticking Engaged
BRP Spyder
When bringing a vehicle equipped with the SE5 semi-automatic transmission to a full stop, the clutch may remain engaged stalling the engine. Once the engine is stalled, it could be impossible to re-start and the rear wheel could be blocked.
What should you do?
Call an authorized BRP Can-Am Spyder Roadster dealer and make an appointment to have your
vehicle repaired. We will update the centrifugal clutch assembly with new components. The dealer will
perform this work at no charge to you.

Spare keys
I know you get a spare key (Chipped) with the Spyder but for safety I asked my dealer to get another key for me
Since then on other Spyder websites several members have been after Non – Chipped
keys this allows them access to Luggage but will not start the Spyder as there is no
chip in it
I thought this was a good idear and and happy to pass on the following information:-
If anyone in the UK needs a Non chipped key Try TIMPSONS
They have over 659 Branches in the UK
They managed to cut 3 unchipped keys for me and if fact the Locksmith
said he could arrange to get a Micro-Chipped key but these would be on
special order
Suggest if anyones is interested they go along to their local branch

The suspence is driving me nuts. In the nicest possible way.
I’m in the same boat as David – I’m the only person within my company who can do the accounts, admin and the guys wages, so I am severly restricted to when I can take time off work.
Plus, coz we’re in Scotland, and no doubt whatever getting planned will be mid-England if not more southerly, we’ll need an extra couple of days for travelling.
I’m still looking forawrd to hearing what’s being planned though – even if I can’t make it there! LOL It sound like Blue’s put in a lot of effort to bring us all together!
P.S. Wincy got a wee run yesterday – the first of 2011, and was so dirty when she got home that we couldn’t even read her number plate! The roads round here are still terrible
I think this is the first time I’ve prayed for heavy rain to clean the roads!!!!!!
Hey Lou
If it’s any help it’ll be on a weekend if all goes well,
Due to a unique part of the equation the location was as random as could be and virtually chose itself. It could have been anywhere in the uk as I searched far and wide for what I was looking for, and yes it is most definitely Southerly to you unsurprisingly!
I’m still waiting on some things to fall into place,
Fingers crossed
Cheers
How’s everybody’s paint holding up, especially with the bad weather, road salt etc? I’ve been washing my Spyder faithfully, but still the silver stuff is bubbling in various areas – front shocks, footrest hangers, rear drive procket in particular. Bad show in comparison with other bkes I’ve owned – chalk it up to Can-Am cost cutting agan?
Hi Pict
Thought I’d heard about this problem just before I sold mine, but understood that they were covering under warranty, hope your still in time, contact your dealer??
Jeff
Sadly the warranty has run out
Talked to my dealer, who has heard of a number of people finding this problem at about 2 years in. As might be expected, BRP can’t or won’t supply touch-up paint (??), so powder-coating has been the common way out.
Hi Pict
Yeah you’re right it is a bit rubbish,
It’s like the metal oxidises and bubbles the paint off.
Head light shouds are a usual suspect for this it seems.
I don’t worry too hard about it and just touch it up with whatever’s to hand.
I have used black marker pen before now just to blend away the powdery silver showing through.
Rear sprocket is another flakey paint area.

Hi there i bought Jeff’s Spyder and took it back to Dublin. If any of you guys are planning a trip to Ireland i would be only to happy to meet up.Thanks Jeff Spyder was a great buy, loads of fun and no trouble
Hi Glenn,
My hubby and I are planning on doing a mini tour of Northern Ireland on our Spyder ( mainly the causeway tourist route ) in June. I wasn’t planning on going as far south as Dublin, but may be persuaded if you can give some advice on touristy things to do
Glad you’re enjoying your Spyder. We love ours but haven’t had a chance to do many miles since we got it in November.
Lou
Hi Glenn, Glad to hear your enjoying it, but dont rub it in about being a good buy. Its taken nearly a year but Iv’e found something to fill the Spyder hole, see PROJECT on my website page.
Good to hear from you perhaps you’ll meet up with Lou n Hubby on Wincy!! or we may all get together when Blue has is event, anybody heard yet?
Regards Jeff
Hi Jeff
I’m still working on it,
I was supposed to have been travelling to a meeting with a heavy weight player last Wednesday to discuss the finer details of my plan however due to injury the representative cancelled late the night before.
This was a big blow as I had planned my whole week around the meeting due to the long journey I had to make to get there and the necessity for getting things sorted quickly now as clearly we all need a good lead time to organise things.
The good news is.. that the other interested party is still very much behind the plan and is re-scheduling the meeting. I’m led to believe it will still take place before the end of February so fingers crossed.
On a separate note I finally made the journey to get my DPS sorted out. I was two up with PG on the back as his Spyder was in for service etc and I was dropping him off.
On the way my unit failed and we had countless butt clenching moments where the power steering was wigging out all over the place. Not a pleasant ride.
It all seems fine now since being swapped out thankfully .
I’ve been riding out a lot recently with some long rides under my belt already this year. It’s still very cold though and I certainly need to invest in some better winter wind stoppers and thermals!
Hallo spyderryder, or should that ex ryder.
I am now the owner on a RT purchased at the beginning of March. I live in Norfolk and was interested in joining this owners group.
Is it still current or do we just communicate via this blog method.

oldgrouse
A rear indicator of this type – http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/carpetdm/indicator-1.jpg – has failed on my RS and despite my years of DIY, I can’t work out how to get at the bulb. Can anybody help? Please don’t tell me it’s a sealed unit at £££ each.
Hi Pict, Look on the back of the unit (forward facing side) at the outer edge you will find a screw. When undone the whole unit comes to pieces, not just a lens release, and you can get to the bulb. Hope this helps.
Thanks for getting back to me. I’d found and undone the screw, but that only allowed the whole lens unit (containing bulb) to ease part-way out of the black housing. There’s little scope to pul it further out and nothing else seems to come apart. Are we talking about the exact same type as illustrated??
Hi pict,, yes we are, the bits come out together and seem to be stuck together as one unit. Gently separate the lens from the reflector part and you can reach the bulb to remove it. I did have to pull a little on the wires to part the bits but they did come apart when I spoke severely to it. BE GENTLE with it
Gentle (with beads of sweat) is in my veins when handling skimpy pieces of plastic gold like Spyder stuff – hence my asking the question before going any further. Thanks again for the reassurance.
Incidentally, Jeff or anyone else, I’m planning a trip up to see friends in Harrogate shortly, if it’s of interest to meet up….
Which route are you taking, I am in North Staffordshire and date
I would love a ride out over to Harrogate, just say where and when. I’m in the Preston area.
Thanks for the positive replies. Not sure of dates yet, for several reasons, but hopefully sometime in March after the 6th (trke meeting at the Ace Cafe in north London). Boris (the Spyder) is going in for some fettling on Wednesday in any case. Sister in law is also coming to stay (AAAARGGGGHHH!), which would be reason enough to make a run for it but SWMBO may have other ideas…. My normal route Hitchin-Harrogate is up the A!(M) which is a bit too far east for you current respondents, I guess, so M1 may be the choice for a change.
I am 1 Hour west of M1 and 2 Hours south of Preston, so we are spread out a bit.
I’ve another mate up on the Fylde coast, and yet others en route – pospect of another trip sometime. Would help if we had a forum and a map to improve contacts….
….and editing facility – that should’ve read “prospect”
Hi Folks,
No offence to our English counterparts but I was wondering if any of the jocks are up for a wee ride-out this Sunday. It is one of the few weekends that I will be off work and the weather looks very promising indeed. I would be prepared to consider up to a couple of hundred miles at the most as I am working again quite early on Monday morning. I know this is quite a late post but am actually just in the door from work and thought I would give it a try to to see if there are any takers for a spontaneous good day out. I will be able to reply up and until tomorrow evening if anyone is intersted and for any suggestions.
Sorry to the our brothers and sisters further afield but work and other and time constraints limit this spring tour.
Cheers
David
“Boris” is running lumpy, intermittently slow to accelerate and backfires sharply now and again. The engne mnagement light has come on occasionally coupled with short periods of sluggishness(limp mode?) confusing the ECU.. My dealer, after talking to BRP has advised me this is likely due to my non-OE (Leo Vince) exhaust coupled witth shifting up too early, based on the history of aftermarket pipes such as Hindles. Anybody agree? Meanwhile my brain, body and wallet have had enough of Spyders for now. Good concept and design, shoddy incarnation.
To complement this correspondence centre, I’ve set up a Google “hub” whick will link to maps, photos, nottes etc. and so hopefully give our group more shape – as a start I’ve pinned my location on the map. Email cnmspdr @gmail.com for access parameters and we’l see how i goes. In the interests of having some securty, best use nicknames only, and avoid giving out exact addresses, bt I’m just trying to move forward a bit.
Hi Pict
On that note, behind the scenes there maybe a new fully functioning Spyder forum being set up for use.
It will be the usual format you’d expect to find in an interactive site eg..
separate threads and departments for each subject matter.
It’ll be hosted by a name we trust in the business and managed by riders if all goes well.
With regards to the Spyder community things are still developing slowly but surely with relation to something happening this Summer,
My hands are still firmly tied on the subject due to new input and direction from Industry muscle. Unfortunately it is a painfully slow process but a necessary one.
Hi Blue. Sorry – should’ve explained that I was aiming to provide interim support – map etc. – while the moer comprehensive “machine” is finalised and implemented. I look forwrd to a proper web site / forum setup, but I must confess I’m worried about the implied degree of corporate input and potential control inyour descriptions.
Hi Pict
I know what you mean however when you’ve got a good idea and someone else says they’re intersted in getting involved which in turn will benefit the good of the many what’s not to like,
It’s a means to an end which hopefully will help us all at no particular cost or commitment. It’s a win win for everyone…eventually…hopefully!!
Hi Blue,
I am a new RT-S owner as of this March. How do I enroll into this forum/group?
Still have my bike, at present, but the boss is now unhappy riding pillion on two wheels, but loves the RT.
Hi & Welcome, sorry for the delay, I will list you on owners page this week.
Regards Jeff
Hi Old Grouse
Sorry for the late reply I’ve been a little distracted,
Nice to see a new face joining us.
It looks like you’ve sorted yourself out already and Jeff is going to list you in the owners section so that’s about as complicated as it is on this forum for now.
I had a busy weekend riding out with PG,
We had an implusive ride to London and did the sights along with Ace cafe.
Note to self-Wear a fume mask when riding in London or behind another Spyder for sustained periods of time in traffic! I think I was was verging on carbon monoxide poisoning by the end of the day!
We had a good night ride back to our neck of the woods so about 9-10 hours of riding that day in total.
Big old fuel bill too!
Hi Everyone, Just received my Spyder renewal from Bikesure premiun gone uo 30% any ideas where to get another decent quote
Taff
Check the 8th of February, on this blog.
try mce for insurance quoted me £249 in febuary at the bike show.
Evening all,
This is a long one so keep with it as all is explained and new info is included about a Spyder event I could really use your support with.
Today was a bit of a kick in the teeth as some of you behind the scenes will already know.
Finally a decision was made with regards to my idea of a Spyder Community get together with a twist.
Here’s the story, which I might as well tell you as I have nothing to loose now.
Back in October 2010 at the Weston Beach I came up with the notion that most of us would like to meet up and do something all together, swap notes etc etc you know the general format.
I thought based on that previous BRP event that some of you went to which by all accounts was rubbish from what I’ve read I wondered what could we all do together that involved the bikes and the people who ride them and keep those two elements more together.
My brain wave idea was make the event interactive and host a Spyder event at a venue that would add a little extra dimension against eating a dinner or discussing the inner workings of a wheel nut over drinks in a hotel all night.
My idea was to host an event at a Race circuit but not only at a race circuit but on the race circuit itself.
This in itself would be a very rare opportunity for Spyder riders as Spyders are not generally well thought of machines when it comes to being allowed trackside, this I very quickly found out as some circuits wouldn’t even talk to me about it. Not in a month of Sundays would some circuits even listen to what a Spyder was, they just heard three wheels and that was it..NO
After many phone calls and many explanatory conversations I stumbled on a national track day organiser who was willing to take on the challenge.
The long and short of it was I found a venue, I formatted a set of regulations that was submitted to the tracks under writers. They also gave the go ahead for a bespoke clothing/ride attire which I spec’d out myself, this was an absolute coup as full race leathers is normally standard and non flexible, further more organised track Marshalls track staff and St Johns Ambulance.
The venue has all the facilities required for a great day out as well as the opportunity to ride your very own Spyder on real circuit.
Now I can already hear some of you thinking big deal who wants to go fast in circles? Well it’s not all about just going fast and here’s why,
The circuit offers everything we need for a major social event along with the safe road environment of the track where you can either do one or all of three things.
1-Take a leisurely jaunt around the track with your pals at what ever pace you like in group 1…or
2-Lay down some rubber in group 2 and put your Spyder through its paces in a safe managed environment with professional supervision trackside.
3-Talk about split pins and nerdy stuff all day with your mates
There is no timing
No racing
No unruly riding
It offers something for everyone and you don’t have to leave the confines of the venue to be with your bike all day long, it’s a win win.
I had planned Spyder orientated completions to generate a little rivalry and hoped to get some dealers there to show new products and bikes etc.
Here’s the kicker,
Adrenalin ATV my old race sponsors and good friends immediately said this is fantastic lets do it and lets also bring in the big hitters to see if they could help out with finances and sponsorship and generally get involved. Let’s face it a national event will draw some interest.
So the big hitters- we’ll call them PRB..(The names have been changed to protect the innocent!!!) say words similar and “allegedly” along the lines of oh yes that sounds interesting lets have a meeting about that… so I hold off planning and the exposure of the event.
I think great two lots of interest serious backers to help out, I’ve done all the leg work it’s an easy ride from here on in for the backers what’s not to like.. Spyder riders here we go, a decent event to look forward to….what could possibly go wrong!?
Weeks go by, promises of a reply and a meeting, excuses after excuses, Months clock up, time wasted I’ll never get back waiting on what appeared to be an enthusiastic partnership according to the e-mails going backwards and forwards. Then today the needle finally fell off the record when I received an E-mail from PRB!
This e-mail contained basic sales hype about new products to QUOTE “get people talking about them” and a thank you for being so enthusiastic Blah Blah….However now it appears a major back track on their enthusiasm for a community event staged at a race circuit venue due to reasons such as it “May” (highlighted) and I quote “alienate some riders!!?”’ and budgetary reasons etc. It then in the next breath says…We are going to be holding two Spyder community events this year one North one South which we will hear about in the coming months.
And so the kick in the bollards was complete
To sum up- Weeks/months of planning wasted
Empty promises.. Allegedly
Missed meetings
False hope etc etc
Piggy backed idea
Now the good news- In conjunction with Adrenalin Atv I am going to continue with this event and front the money to stage it myself along with Andrew and Nathan from Adrenalin Atv.
It’ll obviously take on a slightly different flavour as we will have to share the event with solo riders in segregated ride out sessions IF we cannot rasie enough Spyder interest however the day would essential remain the same.
Loads of social, Loads of riding, Loads of fun.
I have spoken with the circuit owners today and they are very pleased to have us visit and welcome us to their venue.
This will be a limited number ticketed event and Spyder Riders will of course be given first chance to buy tickets. (costs to be confirmed)
The event will cost us thousands to stage so just put in to context the commitment Adrenalin and myself are offering you guys.
We very much hope some if not all of you will support us on this project and make it a successful one, we may even develop it further to an annual gathering depending on your response.
The ball is in your court riders.
Further details will follow as soon as I can finalise costings and dates.
I’m looking at July dates for good weather and the event will be held not a million miles away from Bristol. The actual venue for now is still under wraps.
I will endeavour to answer questions as they get posted.
Thanks for reading all this everyone.
It really has been a great deal of work so far and I really don’t want to let it die due to being let down with false encouragement from the big boys.
A big thank you to Adrenalin Atv for hanging on in there with me and supporting the event.
Cheers
Blue
ALL sounds very interesting and exciting. Sincerely hope the event will be heavily supported. As soon as you the final dates, please place on this blog. Well done to you for all the hard work.
Hi Blue
Just can not get my head around PRB as you call them! I’m sure everyone will appreciate your efforts and give you all the support your plan deserves.
When you get everything in place let me have as much info. and photo’s as possible, also if the venue would allow us to publish their detail and artwork I will be more than happy to convert front page on website to promote the event.
I have said it all before but BRP don’t deserve its UK customer’s, as they treat us all with such indifference and we should just be greatfull for them taking our hard earned cash.
Insurance is another example, its over a year since I brought this to the attention of Rikard Coro and have never had the courtesey of a reply.
Keep the faith, Good Luck and enjoy the fine weather, ride safe. Jeff
Cheers Jeff that’ll be a great help.
Thanks everyone for your support it’s good to know you’re all behind it.
I’m looking at mid July date at the moment?
I’m thinking about the weather although realise it might be holiday season for some people?
July would also give plenty of organisation time.
All ideas and input is very welcome so if there’s something you’d like to do or see at the event make it known and we’ll see what we can rustle up.
I’ve had a great deal of solo interest too so us Spyder riders need to spread the word to ensure other riders don’t miss out.
Due to having to segrate all the riders into groups there will be a limited number of riders allowed per group so not to over load the sessions and stretch out the waiting time between rides etc. At the moment i’m considering 50ish riders in total over 20 minute sessions in rotation.
If we filled all spaces with Spyders it’d be very different as the groups would be simple-Social/Social with enthusiasm and hair on fire! The solos throw a new element into the mix as it increases the groups and therefore rotation time.
It really is down to us to fill the spaces first.
Realistically we will be looking at £80-£100 per ticket and compared to a normal public trackday at £100-£180 where you just ride on your session only this is pretty good value for money as the whole site will be ours exclusively including all the facilities they have to offer.
Obviously we need to cover the costs so ticketed entry will be the way to do this however don’t forget you can bring family and friends to spectate and make a real day of it on your ticket if you’re a rider. I haven’t quite figured out how to ticket non track riding but attending Spyder riders yet as there maybe a few exceptions that can’t or won’t ride.
I hope this updated is of use to everyone and I will continue to keep you posted as things develop.
Thanks again for your support
cheers
blue
Hey blue, I’m in for sure. Think it’ll be a great day out all round. Something for everyone. Good ride out and meet, then the track stuff is right up my street. Can’t wait..!! Nice work and let’s make this a big en everyone. Well excited. I’m just bak in UK and had mine out today in this gorgeous weather. Love it!
Hi Rosie
Thanks for your support let’s hope everyone else thinks so too!
We’re out riding tonight making the most of the beautiful weather.
cheers
blue
Other members please see details posted above.
Hi Blue,
Sounds like a good way to meet up with other Spyder owners. I will certainly be turning up if dates permit.
You seem to have put a lot of effort into this, it deserves to be a success.
Regarding the Spyder insurance I also had a good quote when at the N.E.C from MEC
But when I phoned them yesterday hey said we cannot do it they said the quotes given at that time were a one off only. What do you think of that, the BAAAAS
Re Insurance I posted on December 18th re. a company called Allstyles for insurance on our toys!!!!!!! anyone tried them yet ? good or no good ???
They were interested in trying to qoute for me, but could not get underwriters to accept our toys. I have the RT-S and value did seem part on the issue. However, if enough of of enquire about insurance I think they may be able to set something up. We can but hope.
Hi Blue,
It certainly seems that a lot of effort and time has been put in by yourself trying to bring your plan together. Once the dates are confirmed I will certainly try my utmost to make the meet. Commendations for your efforts.
Yours David
I am also still interested dependant on the dates
I know just how hard Blue has been working on this and he deserves our full
support
Its such a shame that PRB Can’t give us the support – We have taken a leap of faith
with their products – A good turnout will only be good for them as well
Good to hear Adrenalin Atv are willing to help out – They have done more for Spyder Owners than PRB appear to have done so far
Hi Eddie
Thanks for the support.
I totally agree with you.
Hope you’re getting on well with the beast!
I’m sure you’ve found your groove on it by now and are enjoying all that luxury bolted to it, It must beat the fear of toppling over on the BMW!!
cheers
blue
Hi Blue,
That’s a lot of work you’ve done so far!!!!! It’s such a shame PRB(!) have had that attitude with you.
I got an invite from BRP the other day to a Spyder event in being held in Italy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They can shove it up their 4R$3 – if they can’t support us in the uk, why would I want to traipse to Italy to support them!
I won’t be able to attend your event if it’s July though – I’ll not get enough time off work to make it worthwhile travelling down.
Plus Knockhill Racing Circuit is just a few miles from me, and they offer track-events for the public a few nights a week throughout the summer, if I fancied it.
I hope the rest of the plans work out though.
Lou
Hi Lou
Yes loads of work and very frustrating.
Yes I got an invite too. They can stick the Uk version in the same place!
July is still looking favourite for the event although i am waiting for confirmation from Adrenalin that it doesn’t clash with anything they have on. As I say very frustrating being tied into multiple factors which slow the planning down.
Sorry to hear you won’t be able to make it and lucky you if your local track will let you trackside.
The places I tried were very much against the three wheeled format and also wouldn’t allow the Spyder to mix with cars or bikes. It isolates us somewhat although I can see why from the safety aspect. We’re a bit of both so the bikers either suffer or the Syder rider suffers depending on how an accident might occur based on the surounding traffic. The other issue was the insurance, as I mentioned I had to get cleared a bespoke clothing spec and get overall insurance clearance from the host circuit first.
I’m going to organise session riding so everyone can choose their nearest style
and therefore make best use of the venue.
It’d be great to have a good show of Spyders therefore reducing the requirment for solos however they may well be the saviour of the event if Spyder riders don’t get on board with it.It’s a real opportunity to kick start the community with this experimental visit to a circuit.
Cheers
Blue
Hey Blue,
Loving this weather and the opportunity to enjoy rides out on my baby after a long Winter away. Cruising round my local back roads here and checking out the scenary, some gorgeous winding roads ahead of me, it’s just too inviting to let loose and have a play which is diffficult to surpress at times as a responsible rider and sticking to speed limits and the like…..!?!? Can’t wait to have one way traffic and space to have a play in a controlled environment. It’s been a long time since I ran round mad Sunday at the Isle Of Man TT in similar fashion. Don’t expect to be beating any land speed or lap records but this is a chance in a lifetime for me to look back on.! Really hope others think so too and support the event, even if not for the track element but for a social.
Many thanks for getting your teeth into this and making it happen, let me know where I can help out?
Really looking forward to meeting all the other Spyder Ryders, talking bikes and hopefully heading out for a cruise as well?
Keep us informed of progress and dates,
Rosie
Hi Everyone
It’s with pleasure that I can finally announce the full details of the first ever
UK Spyder Rider Community (Racing Circuit) gathering on SATURDAY THE 13TH AUGUST 2011 in partnership with ADRENALIN ATV and hosted by yours truly
The Red Ranger, AKA Blue!
The event is being held at Llandow Race circuit just across the border in Wales.
It’s approximately 60 miles out of Bristol according to the AA and near the town of Cowbridge.
Google – Llandow circuit or http://www.llandow.com
(There’s no Severn bridge fee to pay for bikes and Spyders if you were wondering)
The circuit is an old World War Two airfield that has been converted into a proper Tarmac race circuit where they hold various motor sport events.
(There are some good YOU TUBE videos out there)
Over the years they have hosted everything from Sports car and motorcycle racing to grass tracking and stock cars.
The circuit itself is 1450m long and 9m wide.
To date it’s never seen a Spyder!!
The reason that this was picked as the venue for the event was because the owners who are extremely nice and helpful people kindly allowed the chance for Spyders to venture trackside for the very first time.
No other Circuit would allow the Spyders trackside or offer the same opportunities or value for money.
As I have hired the whole Circuit for the day we have full and exclusive access to all of its facilities which include a Café, Briefing rooms, Parking and of course the Circuit itself.
Remember this is not a public track day event, this is for us Spyder riders to get together in a safe environment with all the facilities we need to have a very nice Summer gathering.
I have organised with the Circuit owners the necessary Marshalls, Trackside staff and Paramedic cover along with all of the required Insurance details required to allow us to stage the event.
Obviously I will be imposing and enforcing a set of riding regulations that I will list out for you all shortly.
Please note-All trackside riding is at your own risk.
Food and general refreshments are all available from the Circuits own Café,
The Chief Marshall will give a briefing in the morning to all riders and will organise and execute sighting laps of the circuit to familiarise everyone with the track.
REMEMBER for those who wish to ride socially and not with their hair on fire- there will be a dedicated group and session for you to do this with like-minded people.
Please do not be put off riding or attending for fear of others who do wish to roll back and see what the Spyder can do trackside. The day is aimed at the Spyder community and everyone should be able to enjoy this very rare opportunity to get together.
The ride spec is as follows-
All riders/pillions must be rider ticket holders to gain access to the track.
All riders/pillions will have to attend the morning briefing from the Chief Marshall.
All riders/Pillions will have to sign a consent form to ride on the circuit.
All riders will have to bring their personal insurance details and drivers licence,
All riders have to be aloft a taxed and MOT’d Spyder compliant with all UK road laws,
All riders/Pillions must wear-
Suitable foot wear specifically designed for road use on a motorcycle/Spyder
Suitable road going motorcycle trousers that are either Leather or Textile in design,
Suitable road going motorcycle Jacket that is either Leather or Textile in design,
Suitable road going motorcycle gloves that are either Leather or Textile in design,
Suitable UK legal road going motorcycle helmet,
If I have missed anything it will be added in due course.
The cost of a rider ticket for the day is £80.00
The cost of a pillion rider for the day is £15.00
The cost of visiting pedestrian spectators is to be confirmed
Please take into consideration that to ride at this track on/in a standard vehicle on a public trackday would cost you the same money!
Spyders are not normally allowed trackside so this is as much a test of the Spyder Community as it is the Circuit owners experimenting with new things!
The other little consideration you may wish to keep in the back of your mind is that at this very moment I’ve paid for this up front myself so it’d be great to have your support. My wallet hurts… a lot!!
Without your support this event lacks the reason for existing.
Adrenalin ATV have also kindly come on board so they will be shouldering half of the initial costs in due course.
As an Industry leader in Spyders and all things extreme Adrenalin ATV will be a very welcome addition to the event and will hopefully bring new offers and deals along with them.
There will be a few fun interludes during the day for those who wish to participate-
Competitions to enter-
Best in show- The best looking Spyder of the day
Most customised Spyder
Highest mileage
Best homemade modification
Hopefully we’ll sort out some little prizes for the winners!
Tickets are limited and will be available on a first come first served basis.
Tickets will be on sale very soon through Adrenalin ATV as they will have the means to process credit card sales etc.
Please remember credit cards service charges may be applied depending on the type of card you use. Details will follow soon.
You can pre book your ticket by sending a confirmation e-mail to Blue at-
bluestone6@hotmail.com
Please give a suitable contact number and state how many tickets you’d like to purchase so we can call you back to take payment for your ticket.
Please head the E-mail with Spyder Riders ticket reservation.
All details will of course will be kept confidential and used only for correspondence for this event
Final note-
If the Spyder community doesn’t embrace this opportunity then I will have no choice but to open the sessions up for solo riders to boost the numbers as I of course need to cover the cost of the venue and event. Please get on board, as it’d be great to meet you all and frankly stick one in the eye of the industry people who decided not to help in the end.
I’ve put my money where my mouth is so let’s see what happens!
Thanks everyone for being so patient and I look forward to seeing you all.
Cheers
Blue
PS
If riders want to stay over night and stage a convoy ride out to the venue on the morning of the 13th I would be happy to offer a secure overnight Parc Ferme for riders with untrailered Spyders staying in local hotels and B&B’s.
My suggestion is a convoy ride from junction 17 of the M4 to Llandow so approximately 78 miles along the M4.
Morning everyone
I’m not sure that it is showing on the site yet however full details of the Spyder Riders event has now been posted!!
Hi Jeff
The event release has been submitted however says it’s waiting for moderation.
If you could release the details i’d very much appreciate it.
Many thanks
Blue
Hi Blue
As you can see its approved, dont know why I had to moderate as you usually go straight on.
I replied to your email but it came back as undeliverable??
Good Luck regards Jeff
Cheers Jeff
If there’s anyway to keep the details in a prominent place that’d be a great help.
Thanks again
Hi Blue & everyone.
Started a new post? on blog page, UK Spyder Rider Community (Racing Circuit) gathering.
I have put your blog as first comment, so everyone who is interested put the page in your favourite’s or what ever it is you do. Jeff
Just stepped off my Spyder about 10 minutes ago after an evening blast.
First ride of the year with the summer gloves on, 23c on the dash board when I left, What a beautiful day for riding.
Spare Fuses for the Spyder RT
I have a 2010 Spyder RT – S
As the weather in the UK has improved I have started to ride out more
as a safety issue I always carry a set of spare fuses (Just in case of failure)
On the Spyder RT there are 2 types of fuses used
In the front trunk the fuses are the normal mini type Blade fuses
of 5,10, 15 and 20 amp Located with the relays under the plastic cover
Some spares are supplied
These are freely available from garages and automotive suppliers
In the rear under the seat are a different type of fuse – I understand the range is 20,25,30,40 and 60 amp – Not sure if here are spare ones as the row of fuses all seem to be used
I have found out these fuses are know as J Case =
SLOW BLOW FUSE
JCASE FEMALE TYPE
Dimensions: Height =27mm body = 12mm x 10mm
NOTE – These are the standard size not the low profile ones
There are now being used on several new cars
I found some via a Vauxall dealer – Just put J CASE FUSE in your search engine and shop around for the best price or try your Spyder dealer

hi blue going to italy but looking forward to your track day.not sure about the insurance you need.Been on three sisters track near wigan they ask you to sign a disclaimant
Hi Jim
Are you off to Italy now or over the event weekend? Are you going to be joining us?
In answer to your question..
Yes the track will require you to sign a disclaimer form which is usual for any of these sorts of events after the main briefing.
It’s down to the individual to alter/increase or change their own insurance arrangements to suit their activities if required.
All of these extra curricular activites carry a risk and the responsibility is always put on the shoulders of the participant. This is standard of any track event in my experience.
Was it you who was the insurance Guru in another life time? I had a feeling someone on the forum was a former insurance sort.
Cheers
Blue
I was involved in the insurance business, suggest you take a look at your certificate of insurance and it should say exclude all racing If you are with Bike sure that’s what it will say or mine does.
hi blue yes going to the spyder weekend in italy. Is there any other spyders going if so would like to meet and ride with them. Yes put my name down for the trackdayand a passenger
Hi Jim
Great stuff, Your ticket is reserved.
See if you can drag any Euro riders back with you for August whilst on your travels and
spread the word if you can!
If you can get get some foreign interest that attend i’ll see what I can do regarding your ticket for the day in return.
Ride safe and see you in August.
Cheers

hi blue
thanks for that i will do my best to help the weekend
if there were some flyers to hand out i could take them with me
Hi Jim
Good chap that’s a handy idea.
I could rustle up some basic homemade ones on the PC and post them to you?
If you e-mail your details I’ll post them on.
Many thanks
Blue
hi blue
just been out on the spyder with the wife for a drink sat outside pub and a spyder went past us
karen says come on lets catch him up and see how he is after a quick blast pulls him over.
he only lives 2mile down the road and has had his spyder for a year so i told him to have a look at spyderrider and get to the track day.
my address is 1 WINDGATE MUCH-HOOLE PRESTON PR4 4GR
send me a flyer of what you want and i will copy some off and hand them out for you
yours thanks jim.
Hi Jim
I’ve still not spotted another rider yet!
Good job on hunting him down to spread the word.
I’ve printed and cut down a load of little flyers that i’ll post to you after the Bank holiday.
It’d be great to get some Euro riders over, you’ll be ideally placed to hustle some interest and fly the flag.
Many thanks again for the help.
Cheers
Blue
Now I know this is a recurring thread however in a fast moving market fresh intel is key so dare I ask who is offering the best Insurance deals out there at the moment!?
I tried the NFU the other day and they could cover the Spyder however the premium was too high.
Is Bike-sure still bending us all over or have we found new cover else where?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers

just renewed mine with bikesure £505,mce wanted £568,netpig.com wanted £599,swinton insurance wanted £800 plus i didnt bother asking what the plus was.
mce quoted £249 at bikeshow when i rang them they said it was a show only price.
hope this helps a bit.also tried allstyles insurance they said about £800.
my renewal with bikesure is £50 less than last year,2 years no claims,51 years old.
Thanks for the info Ian,
Very helpful
Cheers
Blue
Hi Ian,
Just renewed my insurance with MCE for £451 for my RT TECHNO…..Bikesure quoted me at £756……..Still think it is expensive as this is with 9 years no claims bonus but still chuffed at saving 300 squid
Bike Sure £545 with 1 years no claims
The bike insurer who were rubbishing Bike Sure to try and get the trade quoted £780 odd. Talk about unprofessional rip off merchants!
Hi blue
got the flyers,i will make sure evry spyder in italy has one stuck to its .
i have some in the tank bag already gave 2 out.
thanks

HOT OFF THE PRESS!
GG Technik (www.gg-technik.ch) are coming to the Spyder event all the way from Switzerland to show and demo their range of vehicles.
The GG Quadster
GG Quad
GG Taurus
Details can be found online at http://www.gg-technik.ch… or just google them,
I will post further details as GG-Technik release them to me.
For those who have not seen these trikes and bikes they are not to be missed!
Regards
Blue
Ah copycats !!!
These trikes look a fair bit smaller than the Spyder, and not quite as practical – no storage space, and mirrors below the handlebars(???)
It’d be interesting to see how much these cost compared with the Spyder though – there’s no indication of price on their website, and their Uk dealer doesn’t even mention the trike model of the range.
Lou
Early Spyders must have been coming up to first MOT time, and I’ve been wondering how things are shaping up regarding test centres’ competence with this rather diffeent beast. Or to put it simply, how happy are we going to be, handing over the key to the guy in the greasy boiler suit and steel-toed boots? One positive note came from visiting Predator Motorsports in Welwyn Garden City the other day, when I was told that not only were they happy to MOT Spyders, but that one of the staff (Peter) has one.
boom trikes are the uk dealer for gg quadster ex demo on their website for 38k.saw one at margate last year they do look nice bit expensive i think. look on you tube road test on there.
I miss sliding the rear end and having more direct control over the steering which these appear to give you compared to the Spyder.
I’m bias of course having raced and ridden Quads both on and off road.
You’re not riding unless you’re sliding!! Nothing like a roundabout with the back end stepped out and the front wheels crossed over.
Had a great introduction to Spyder sliding yesterday. heavy rain. 1st gear spin, thought upto 2nd n grip – nope, 3rd n get some grip – nope, backend tried to visit the front and say hello. LOVED IT…….!!
Been there!
Rolled back with enthusiasm in the middle lane to dart ahead of an approaching Range Rover only to loose all traction and forward momentum due to the rain.Only just managed to stay ahead of it,
I think i’ve told that story before and certainly said the Spyder is terrible for traction and grip in the wet.
How did 158 go ?
didn’t get to 158 open day, long story will tell ya about it another time. James (from 158 performance) has asked for the info again for the track day, think he has a bit of interest for it (him included). Can you resend another copy please
Have enjoyed a couple of diesel slicks in the wet so far – just a wiggle and continue. Better was on a fast curvin run out of the local Aldi, trying to grab a space in the fast lane – managed a fishtail with left wheel (nearly both) raised despite upgraded swaybar. Traction control etc had a little conversation then it all settled down. Passed the loose gravel test once as well. Quite impressive, to be able to relax into it all.
Yes no worries,
Thanks for reminding them.
I have a list of other people I need to e-mail too as interest has certainly grown.
Hi Pict
Yes the systems are very clever for sure and do give that piece of mind that you’re pretty safe, it can still feel pretty hairy though with a proper fist full and a slick road, Great if you’re fooling about, not so good pulling out of Aldi though as you say!
I’ve had a few butt twitchers in the wet weather where I was wondering if it was going to recover. Got to push the limits now and then.
hi blue
setting of for italy in the morning got the bike loded up

good luck Jim, have a great ride and look forward to hearing all about it.
Hi all,
I have a recently purchased RT-S 2010 model. When braking I get a loud rattling noise as if the ABS is working overtime, but not actually operating. I pointed this out on it’s first service but the ‘fault’ was still there on it’s return.
I conntacted BRP, who replied that there were unable to comment!! and return it to the dealer.
Does any else have this noise and is it normal ?
Looking forward to the track day.
Cheers
Hi Old Grouse
Sounds dodgy to me! Send it back.
I’ve had the slack parking brake issue.
It seems that i’d run out of adjustment and the bike would just roll off when parked.
I changed the pads at first which made no difference so then decided that the cable must have stretched.
I discovered by removing the actuator arm for the parking brake which is on a spline connecting it to the Calliper, rotating the splined rod forward and then replacing the arm it reduced the overall travel of the arm before engaging the brakes.
Seem to have worked a treat for now and has given me full adjustment back on the threaded tube for small adjustements. Just got to hope the cable doesn’t give up now until it gets replaced.
Are you coming to the Event? Have you reserved a ticket yet?
Cheers
Blue
Hi. my Rt 2010, has always had a loud clicking, on braking, since new. Dealer cannot find a fault. So I just live with it. The brakes have never let me down. Living on this Island, one is braking nearly every two minutes.
Reagards, Gary
Hi Gary,
Thanks for the info, mine is now booked in with the dealer for a further check. If they find anything I will let you know.
As you say the brakes work OK, but it’s a bit disconcerting.
Cheers
New pants please!
Without divulging specifics I think I found the edge of performance the other evening whilst following a BMW 1000rr. The sickening thing was the BMW was being run in and limited to 9000rpm. It was like a rocket in fast forward mode.
I’ve just about unpuckered now.
Had a chat with a nice Policeman too who’s probably had a browse on here now as he took a keen interest in the bike whilst parked up. I think the question was…hypothetically how fast could you get one of these things to go!!
Hi gary and oldgrouse,
If you look over on the “spyderlovers” site you will find numerous indications of this noise being noticed. The general opinions now seem to be the noise is caused by the holes in the discs cutting the air approaching and leaving the pads!! well thats the theory.
On the rear brake adjustment, the remedy given by blue is the correct way of adjusting for the pad wear. If working on the rear brake ,such as fitting new pads, the arm must be removed from the spline and screwed out, ( anticlockwise ) to take the brake piston back into the caliper for the clearance for the pads. You cannot just push the piston back in.
If you are suffering from the squeal from the back brake when reversing, try this mod – Remove one of the pad retaining bolts and find a LIGHT spring to fit over the bolt. Cut the spring length so that it will fit between the pads in the caliper and hold them off the disc. refit the bolt into the caliper at the same time holding the spring in place between the pads as you slide the bolt through, and tighten. Repeat with second bolt.
You MUST ENSURE the spring will not become coilbound and prevent the pads from doing the job of being brake pads. So what you will see when completed is the normal brake pad and disc arrangement with the light spring on the pad locating bolts holding the pads just off the disc. This will not push the pads too far apart as the parking brake actually locates the pads in the correct place.
Result – no noise for the last two and a half years ( when I tried it out to see if it would work )
Hope this helps you out
Many thanks for the info; Iam happy to go along with that theory.
I now turn the ipod up another notch. What you cant hear, should not not worry one.
Cheers, Gary
rang bikesure today for a quote on a rt ltd,i paid £505 for the rs 1st of may they want another £333 for the rt making a total of £838 bit extreme i thought so i rang BRP and told them it will probabley cost them the sale of the rt ltd, they said as from july spyders will be in the caps insurance book which should make the prices come down, they are going to have a word with bikesure and email me back with the results, they said that before two years ago never heard anything we will see.

Hi Jim
Think everyone has gone on holiday !!
Hi, not sure if anyone has mentioned But on my last service a little birdy told me that Bike sure have found themselves in a bit of bother !!
I have just recieved my renwal at £388 still to much so they dropped to £350 thats with all the xtras mind !
they have not stipulated any locks- alarms either !
Paul
Hi , I have just had my renewal for my insurance £380, i have told them its still too much ( lst yr £500 ) i am also aware that Bike sure have got themselves in a bit of bother !! details unknown a very nice birdy told me when i was having my service done, i will be contacting them again shortly as i am still shopping around ! they have not stipulated any form of locks-alarms either !! my syder rss 2010 is garaged overnight.
Hello to you all !!
Paul
Hi folks. I’ve not posted much, so am hardly a member of this noble community, but I thought I’d announce my “retirement” through ill health – Parkinson’s has finally reached Spyder-incompatible level. But the main point is to say that I’ve sold my black 2008 GS to Terry from Doncaster – a very nice man who is heavily into motorsport and will be a big asset to the group. I’ll be sending him along asap.
While I’m here, I thought it might be of interest to highlight another piece of BikeSure nonsense. My comp. policy ran from Nov 4th 2010, so I was hoping for a bit of a rebate on cancellation with nearly 6 months left. However I was offered about £15, which they told me would be swallowed up by the £25 cancellation fee charged by the underwriters (Marker Study) – so I’d have to pay a balance of £10-odd Eh??. After I’ve paid through the nose in the first place they now want to keep my money at no further risk and charge me for it?? I’m going to enjoy completing the “customer satisfaction” form they’ve just sent me…..
Good news that they’re in trouble – may they burn in hell.
All the best to everybody. I’m sorry it’s trned out this way.
Ian
Hi Ian, sorry to hear of your retirement, as a fellow retiree I know you are going to miss her, should I amend you to enthusiast, it would be nice if you kept in touch I know you were keen to improve communication between members.
As I’m in Doncaster I’ll look out for Terry and make sure he’s looking after your old girl. (the bike)
With regard insurance the very same thing happened to me, apart from being ripped off on the premium, because they had some big pay outs!!!! They are all related to Dick Turpin; all though when I complained and said I would tell everyone via the website they gave me £75 ex gratia payment.
I’m sure everyone will wish you all the best for the future, sorry we didn’t meet up, but we have BRP to blame for that as they do nothing to encourage the community, that’s another story.
Best of luck regards Jeff

Spyder RT – S (SES- Auto 2010 model)
Surprise Surprise a few more paint variations and some fancy stitching woohoo!! NOT
The Fox shocks are a good upgrade which is some consolation as they will work well.
No engine upgrades which is very disappointing as more HP would be very welcome.
Colours look smart and glad they realised the shocks need upgrading. Don’t forget about the Elka shocks, they rock and have transformed my Spyder. Blue, looks like you’ll have to save for that engine boost thingy you told me about?
Guesssssss what – track day getting closer……………………………………………………………….!!!!
Hi Sean
Yeah the Areo Charger, Looks very responsive on you tube, pricey though!
Yes the Community Event is just around the corner now. It’d be nice to have a few more Spyder owners come along even if they don’t want to ride the track. It’s certainly been an education trying to sort this event out,
You’re itching to get trackside aren’t you!!? Are those swanky shocks going to give you the edge!!?….time will tell!
Well got my Spyder RS brand new 1st June, well nice, first service 5th July, havnt seen it since!!! balljoint failure, not a common problem according to Adrenalin,BRP UK have 46 in stock, why??? Nine days to get a part from BRP to Adenalin ,I know the postman is slow but come on,I think someone is telling me porkies, not even had a phone call from them, though quite keen to take my money when I bought it.Any one else had these sort of problems???
Thinking of taking My Spyder RT-S 2010 Model over to Germany for a short trip
(1st time over to Europe) Hopefully in Sept this year
What do I class the Spyder as when booking on Ferry or Eurotunnel Motorcycle/Trike etc
I am sure someone has already taken a Spyder from the UK to Europe so any information ref
What documents, Health/Travel/Vehicle lnsurance and also Legal reqirements ref HI-VIZ – Warning triangle, First Aid kit etc needed would be useful
Any information or links provided to get up to date information Gratefully received
Thanks all

Hi. Some ferry operators, classify the trike as a m/cycle. The french do require you to have a HI-VIZ over jacket. Just incase of accidents. They do also require, you to carry a red triangle.
All documemts, ie; d/licence, insurance and vehicle papers are required to be carried.
Roads in France are excellent. Generally well sign posted. Just remember to change the speedo over to kilos. Max speed usually 120k.
Hope thgis helps.
Gary.
Getting Spyder back on Thursday ,after 17 days for a steering ball joint,OMG ive missed it.
Was that you,
Riding a yellow RS on the A47 heading East from Peterborough last Wed’s PM. Looked very smart.
The insurance saga continues…..!!
Rang Bikesure for a quote. as it’s not garaged and sits on my drive (although within a private gated secure community) they would only insure me Third Party. To get Fully Comp the value of vehicle needed to be under £4000.
Might have to go build a gargae.!?!? lol
Hi Rosie,
Back in 2009 when I got my 1st Spyder, all insurance companies would not insure me at all unless it was a brick/concrete garage with a concrete floor within my area. I therefore built one. Think that the rules have changed a bit now however
Hi David,
Seems like that’s still the case.! Rang round a few more…………
Had to store my Spyder in a secure yard in a Shipping Container for MCE to consider renewing my Insurance. At least it brought the policy down to £515. I already had the container for other items of storage, oooh well…..?
Cheers
hi evryone
looking forward to the trackday thinking of comeing down on friday night is there any other spyders
going from lancashire .
that £4000 sounds a bit much have you tried fitting a tracker.
Hi Jim, I will be in Wales on Friday. But intend to back track, early Sat; morning, to meet the convoy on the M4. Have to ckeck with Blue the exact route they are taking. Please let me know if you fancy joining the convoy on Sat;
I`am leaving Jersey on Sunday the 7th. If you want to meet up ref; above, this is my mobile No.07797773974.
Cheers. Gary
Hi guys I no its been along time since I last posted but I have just seen a spyder on the back of a recovery truck headin up the m4 and was wondering who the lucky person was or maybe who the unlucky person was who had. A break down hope every one is well
I was on the M25 on Friday 30th Sept going North between Junc 15 to 20 at approx 10:30 am
Sure I saw another Spyder RT going Southbound
Wondered if it was anyone who reads this blog
I have also completed a trip to Germany in Sept – 7 days and 1,120 Miles without any problems
First trip abroad on Spyder and hope to do more next year
See pictues on Spyder Lovers.com Website – Gallery – Germany trip 2011

Just had this posted to me via e mail from BRP Autumn 2011 Newsletter
Our first ever Spyder Riders Days in France was quite literally a roaring success with 120 Spyder® Roadsters thundering along the famous ‘Route Napoléon’; going from surf to snow in just one day as we rode from Cannes, on the stunning Côte d’Azur, to Grenoble in the breathtaking pre-alps.
There was much camaraderie along the way as riders swapped stories, shared passions and made new friends along the 300km route; as well as many dropped-jaws and wide-eyes as onlookers took in our awesome spectacle.
Despite having four Spyder Riders Days in both Benelux and Spain already under our belt, we never tire of the reactions our display provokes.
With so many riders looking forward the next event, who are we to disappoint?! We can now reveal that our super event teams are already planning Spyder Riders Days for 2012 in France, Spain and Benelux.
——————————————————————————————————————————————
Not sure if they are planning a UK one
Dependant on the 2012 Dates it may be worth considering a trip over for one of their Rider Days
Also if anyone is intrested in a set of Stainless Steel Handlebar Weights for their Spyder RT

Hi folks,
Anyone looking for a 2010 RSS SE? Pearlescent White, alloys, colour-coded seat stitching, and the roller- trolley case in the boot.
It’s got just over 3000 miles on the clock, gets it’s 2nd service in two days, will be taxed again for another 6 months at the end of October and has several additions …
The Givi OEM pannier set with colour-coded panels
Sports rack
Pillion back-rest
Touring screen
Ergonomic pillion foot-rests
Oxford heated grips (fitted by dealer)
And the wee boot-lid release spring.
It’s currently on a private plate, but will get it’s original 60 plate back at point of sale.
I’m looking for £13,500 for it, and only selling as hubby dearest has managed to get himself points on his licence, and my insurance quotes have gone ballistic. I will accept lower offers, but will take some of the modifications off to suit the price.
If you know of anyone interested, have them email me : lou_hewitt@hotmail.com
It’ll be going on Gumtree, eBay and BikeTrader, and anywhere else I can think of at the weekend.
Cheers
Lou
